I got my Borla installed by Jimmy yesterday at Street Performance.. car runs nice..
Sounds good, i cant tell if it sounds "normal" as i have never had an exhaust before..
When my engine is warmed it idles fine just below the 1000 (1) mark.. but i notice once i start driving and stop at a light my idles drop to abour 500 (half way between 0 and 1). I cant see anything wrong with the car, it repsonds fine, but i am wondering if that kind of idle is normal after getting an exhaust.
At around 1000 i hear the exhaust grumbling (which is normal i beleive) once i idle at 500 it feels like the engine has basically shut off i can't hear a thing from my engine our my exhaust (while sitting inside the car), but again it responds fine when i accelerate..
So.. is this normal? will the ECU learn and adjust? or is this a problem
Thanks
An exhuast will not make your car idle any different..it should still idle at the same rpm.
Most exhuast at idle will sound normal..it's when you start hit the gas you will here it.

It shouldn't be idling that low either. Around 700 is normal

Then let me put the above post in a simplified form...
Is an idle of 500 - 600 normal at a red light on a 2.0L automatic car?

I will post it in about an hour.

Does the needle dip down; for example, hold at 750 then drop to 500 for sec, then back up?I'm thinking it's likely your ecu. I idle around 700 / 750 rpm.

no Jason, it doesnt drop down then back up to 750..
I noticed though when i start my car (After a few minute warm up) put it in drive, i idle around 700-750.. once it runs and i'm in stop and go traffic it idles at about 500-600 at a full stop.
I'm pretty sure prior to exhaust instalation i was idling at around 750 i will give it a few days i guess and see if it settles.. I'm due for my 24k service as well so i can bring it up with the dealer as well :) if need be

I have the same experience (500 - 600 rpm idle) any time I've made mods to my exhaust (cbe, header), intake, and even when I reset my ecu. Let us know how it goes. I'm curious because my car idles, on average, at 750 rpm.

lol no, it is great that its quiet at idle.. Sounds good.. I need someone to drive my car so i can hear it from the outside lol..
Ive had it on for only a day.. But i like it :) i was just concerned about the idle rpm...
I do wish however i had a manual car now, as it seems to sound better at higher rpms... Oh well!
Now just need a few more things and im good for the summer lol.
Their is no reason to worrie about your idle..mine idles the eact same as yours and mine is the stock exhuast.
It's mind over matter cause puting cause putting a performance muffler will not make your car idle any different.

not sure if you read my idle issues, but anyways...
this is normal and i have a 2.0 w/ Borla for about a year now and it idles really low (around 400-500) as well... something to do with the back-pressure of the exhaust... completely normal though... i still love the sound of this exhaust :)
