Just some pics of a Genesis I took in a bestbuy parking lot... Generally speaking, nice lines, the front is a bit too... abrupt...

My Korean friend told me the Genesis has been out for years in Korea. It's their top-selling car, as "crappy" stuff to us like Ford and GM are very expensive there considering they're imported.

It has been out in Korea for a number of months, but not years. The Korean tuners are already having a blast with it though :)
In Korea they also got the Genesis sedan ahead of us, which also came out ahead of the coupe in both places, so that might qualify your friend's statement.
Nice car, no doubt. Its like the new Nissan 240 for this generation.

Trust me, our current one is their second gen. Her aunt has had one for over two years. She went back summer 2007 and showed me pictures of it.

Um....no. It was released last fall for Korea. Starting being up for grabs in early March here. Hyundai didn't have a RWD coupe before and had not used the Genesis Coupe nameplate before either.
Maybe the pic was of a Tibby.

Agreed.
According to this (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/09/05/first-hyundai-genesis-coupe-commercial-hits-korea-pricing-revea/)link the Korean launch for the Genesis Coupe was Sept. 8 2008.

you know whats funny about that is about 10 years ago, maybe longer, people wouldnt be caught dead driving a honda, back then honda was considered a cheap shitty car. and now look, its one of the best selling cars in north america. Give hyundai some time, it will grow, and this genesis really helps with the growth. Ive seen a few on the road now, sexy sexy car.

Genesis coupe is a great looking car, saw a couple these in white and silver. However these arn't lookers, its like a glance at once, then its like nothing afterwards.
True tuner engine for this car is the 2.0T FTW...3.8L FTL =D.

Although the 2.0 is getting a lot of aftermarket attention (lots of turbo shops want in on the action) the 3.8 is pretty powerful to start with, and responds well to mods. I've been following along at GenCoupe.com. :)

haha yeahhh true enough.
Definitely a very sexy car, but I can't help but notice a few similarities between the genesis and the mazda6.... I actually mistook a mazda6 commercial for a genesis one :whoa
I think it's the body shape, the pulled back headlights and the lower grille (kinda has that ninja turtle teeth thing going on... hahahah on the sides where the fogs are? lol)... actually loving the new 6 even more than this...

At the heart of the story are two performance-focused engines: The range-topping, all aluminum 310 horsepower (premium fuel), 306 horsepower (regular fuel), DOHC 3.8-liter V6 Lambda RS. The base engine will be the 223 horsepower (premium fuel), 210 horsepower (regular fuel) 2.0-liter turbocharged Theta.

The Japanese manufacturers were in the same position at one time. Hats off to Hyundai for coming along so quickly in comparison to Toyota and Honda. Kudos for providing a RWD sports car with two great engines and also bringing a strong V8 while other Japanese manufacturers have yet to introduce one.

I remember in school one of my profs were telling me that each car company has a certain "total lineup" carbon emission limitation - meaning one of each of their models worth of emissions put together. If this were true, it makes sense that Hyundai can put out V8s since most of their lineup consists of smaller 4-cylinder engines.

Ive heard of this too, which is why large companies like GM can only make one sports car with high horse power. Something to do with a certain percentage of the companies vehicles need to be in a certain MPG fuel range i think.

Its known as their CAFE (Coporate Average Fuel Economy). In basic terms its an average fuel economy based on the actual total of vehicles they sell, in all categories.

Thats very true. Just makes me wonder about Honda/Acura. The RL desperately needs a V8 to compete with the big boys. The TL is better in every way. Hyundai's Genesis sedan even has two choices of engines. They are definitely make some other car makers look bad IMO.

a little over 20 years ago...the reason why Acura was launched in 1986/87 was to sell a $20,000+ Honda to a public that grew up with Hondas synonymous with cheap rust buckets.
Hyundai normally takes a page out of the playbook of the Japanese automakers ...but they've started their own chapter with the success of the Genesis Coupe and Sedan.

The coupe has like 300+ horse power and is 40k or less in price? Not too shabby. Dunno why it got car of the year in Canada though, i honestly haven't seen that many on the streets.

I took a quick test drive in a 2.0T yesterday at Kingscross Hyundai. They were very friendly when I walked in, even on a busy Saturday, and almost immediately offered me a test drive. Also got lots of compliments on my car :) Here's my quick impressions:
Pros
-great seats, great interior
-lots of features even on the base model
-lots of room in the back seats, for a coupe. Could probably get a child seat comfortably back there! Compared with the 2010 Mustang next door, which has significantly less rear legroom.
-coming from a 2.0 Mazda3, the turbo Coupe has lots of power :)
-base suspension feels great! Generally the springs felt about the same as my lowering springs, but the shocks were better valved so the ride was more controlled (I'm on stock shocks). As noted on the GenCoupe forums, if you want to lower this thing you REALLY need aftermarket shocks; the stock ones have very limited travel.
-stock shifts are actually quite short (similar to my RKM short shifter).
Cons
-the shifter is somewhat notchy. It may loosen up and I'd adapt to it I'm sure.
-the much-talked about "rev-hang" issue was present. Since I'm not buying yet anyway I'll be waiting patiently for either Hyundai to address this or for an aftermarket flash. It has been confirmed that the ECU does this to help with emissions.
-the engine had a fairly rough idle/vibrations were higher in cabin than my 3. This was a demo so I can't confirm if all cars are like this.
-I can't pick a favourite colour. I can knock the gray and silver off my list; although they look great they are not for me. But white, black, blue, red........ what to do? Leaning towards red as the fav.
-even with a $24,495 price, with taxes etc it works out to $500+/month for 60-month financing, with $2000 down. Have to do some bargaining and have a real job to pay for this car!
Also, the Canadian optional spoiler seems to be different than that offered in the US, based on the one that was in the showroom.

25K??? Wow, that's super affordable. What kind of car classes is it trying to compete with on performance?

It competes with a V6 Mustang at that price point.... about 200hp at the crank.

nice ride! my boss got 2.0T premium at cost w/ two carnival cruise tickets, I love that thing. I'm waiting for the 3.8 to tank in resale value then I can trade my car in for one.
it sux how the 2.0t doesn't come with climate control & smart key... and to get LSD you have to give up the full leather interior with the track pack... their options are so weird, only the 3.8 gt has everything

Which is the way it should be. If you want a track toy you shouldn't care about creature comforts. Those things add weight, which is bad. Personally, I'd like to see the 2.0T GT lose the sunroof too, just adds weight.

Please note that IMO Attrell Hyundai in Brampton is one of the worst stealerships I have ever had the misfortune of interacting with. Only once have I managed to walk out of there without being thoroughly disappointed (or downright furious).
If you're considering a Genesis coupe I'd implore you to take your business elsewhere.
