So the standard response is use the search engine because there is a lot of info on this topic.

To give you a quick rundown:

Detecting a failed motor mount in some cases can be easy. I.e., banging when you launch hard or shift aggressively. If you don't drive your car hard, you may feel a general lacking of 'solid' feeling when shifting and launching.

There are 3 mounts; rear mm, passenger side top mm, and drivers side tranny mount.

Historically most people see the passenger side mount fail. I had this mount fail, which was fixed by mazda due to a tsb on this mount. The mount is liquid filled, and is the easiest to check. Look for leaking oil, and torn rubber. Feel around the mount as well.
Recently, I believe someone on the forum reported having a problem with the stock rear mm. This is usually the first mount that people upgrade, and it is honestly a worthwhile modification. This mount is difficult to inspect because it is wedged between your engine and subframe. You'll need to pull the mount out to take a good look at it.

The tranny mount is also a pain to inspect. It is, of course, on top of your tranny. To get to it, you need to remove your battery and battery box. I recently had mine looked at. I was told that it is 'looking worn'. I'm not sure how common it is for these mounts to fail on the mz3.

I would suggest that if you have any concerns about the health of your mounts to get them inspected asap. If there is something wrong you can address it; and if there's nothing wrong you will have peace of mind. Good luck.
