hey ... so this past weekend i did a full clay bar on my car and then i waxed it ...

Mothers clay bar kit

Meguires gold class wax

i thought after this my swirl marks ( clear coat scratches ) would be gone but i still see them... how come?

whats a good product to get rid of these? ... and can i do it now even though i already waxed the car?

I'm not sure it's that easy to get rid of swirl marks just by waxing..

...but if it is, I'm curious to know as well!!

You will need a compound to cut.

Each method you just listed does a specific job - and none of those jobs are to remove swirls.

Clay bar is the first step in prep after cleaning/washing vehicle. It's job is to remove contamination from the paint.

Wax is the final step - It's job is to add a protective layer over the clear coat.

To remove the swirl marks, you will need a DA/Orbit Polisher, high quality pads and Meguiars Compound (there are different levels of abrasive, from low to very aggressive - ie. ultra cut compound being one of their most strongest)

I would recommend getting it professionally done. Only once the entire hood and car is covered i swirl and other marks.

Then follow these steps when washing your car to avoid getting marks.

I say its cheaper to pay a pro than to go out and buy the products, the machines and learn how to do this job properly without damaging anything. Then you just wash your car yourself following the steps in the above link - avoiding car washes that touch your paint and You should never see swirl marks again!

I think this is true. I never washed my previous car by hand and used mostly touchless car washes and I don't recall having any swirl marks on my car. but then again I really didn't car or bothered to look... the car was dark blue and swirl marks are more obvious on darker colours I think

or you could incorporate my method of 5 mitt wash

Yes, you just have to wax after you use the compound to put back protection. No harm.

You should look at a paint sealer and then possibly a good wax after the compounding.

I find that the winter is the hardest on the paint and items like snow brushes add to the swirls. Not much you can do to prevent swirls.

As mentioned above, you can use compounds to cut the clear coat and level things out. There are waxes and fillers that can be used to achieve the same result however they will only be temporary and they will show the swirls again.

use a good polish to correct the paint and remove swirls.

wax just acts as a protectant...
