does anyone here know what kind of coolant Volvo uses, and if it's compatible with Mazda?
I bought my 3 from a volvo dealer and before they sold it they did a coolant flush, and they used volvo coolant. I'm wondering if it can cause any problems in the mazda engine.

What color is the coolant? Also what year 3 do you have?

I have a 2007 2.0L engine mazda 3
the coolant is green. on my coolant reservoir I do not see any stickers about FL22, so I assume it was originally filled with "standard" coolant. (whatever "standard" is)

Well FL22 coolant is green. I know the stuff Volvo uses now is blue and the new Mazda all-purpose coolant is yellow. So maybe they mixed the two and got green?
yellow + blue = green:chuckle

no, this is definitely green. it looks like other coolant I am used to, such as Nissan.
Plain green coolant.

It's hard to say what's really in there now. If you're not sure just get it flushed.

or ask the dealer which coolant they used after the flush

I did. they used "volvo coolant"
because volvo makes their own "special" coolant that they sell you for 3 times the price. like audi and BMW.
that's why I'm asking if anyone knows what the volvo coolant contains.
it's the same coolant they would put in a volvo S40 which is based on the mazda 3, but I don't know to what extent they share the same components. do they have the same radiator?

You sir.. Need to call your dealer and ask for an explanation. I suspect no one here can answer you because:
A) YOUR coolant is GREEN!
B) Volvo states they used Volvo coolant!
C) Volvo coolant is BLUE!

Well if mazda coolant is yellow maybe they didn't do a flush and only did a drain. Adding a blue coolant to the undrained yellow to make the green.

Its just coolant
and think of it this way, you car came with a bonus, high end coolant at no extra charge...
so thus, if it scares you too much, flush and re-fill with proper coolant....
service at Mazda cost roughly $100 last time i checked.
