I am considering putting machine washable car seat covers to make cleaning easier. However my car has air bags that pop out from the side (09 sports gx). Does anyone have experience on customizing car seat covers so that they wont interfere with the side airbag?

this item is said to not hinder the use of side airbags, however i do not know if this is accurate or not.http://cgi.ebay.ca/2004-2009-Mazda-Mazda3-Car-Seat-Covers-B-T153_W0QQitemZ150344495573QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotor s_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item15034449557 3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1215%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

I just use the Obusform basic black seat covers. They look fine as they are just plain black and you never have to worry about the oem seats getting stained or too dirty.
If your going out on a hot date or a meet or just want to impress, just pull them off and toss them in the back.
Best thing you can do to preserve the driver's seat from everyday wear an tear IMHO.

Isn't seat covers a problem for 2007+ Mazda3's since they all have side air bags on the front seats. So a seat cover will prevent them from coming out.

Very Funny Sunkist! Are those really your lips?? JJ.
Just enjoy the car because the stress of what might happen if you actually get a spot on it will kill you long before the car sees some wear.

ha ha... I should have taken my own advise.. # 5 don't wash your car with the windows open...
I washed and waxed my car this morning and when I got to the passanger side the back window was down 1/2 was... lucky that I noticed before I started to spray that side with the hose :bang:bang:bang
on other thing to keep your newly washed car dry.... don't run over your wash bucket after you wash your car.... I did this this morning.. haha.. must remember to to be awake when I was my car. lol

well, I've had the car for a month now.. I have washed it at least six-7 times. and waxed it twice....
yeah I know. My neighbours have learned to accept it. I'm a freak.. I wash my car at the first sign of water spots... I also waxed it 2 just to make sure I did a good job:)
by the way you are very observant

There's some brands that allow for side airbag deployment, but honestly they looks really goofy. Cutouts on the sides..meeehhhh

I work in renovations and im constantly covered in sawdust, drywall dust, debris, crumbs of all kinds of stuff, and i just drape an old bed sheet over my whole drivers seat during the week when im driving too and from work. it covers the black seat material, wraps around the chair with no problem and its easy to just pull off when its friday night and im gonna be wearing clean cltohes for the weekend. it doesnt interfere at ALL with where the airbags would come out of, it also doesnt change the feel of the bucket seats (that frankly are pretty comfy, stock) i will be the first to admit a bedsheet draped over my drivers seat looks dumb, it aint 'pretty' but it sure does the trick and frankly, during the week there's rarely other people riding in my car with me. some evenings but mostly on teh weekends when the sheet is off, and in the wash lol
GO THE CHEAP WAY. :) THATS MY ADVICE

hope you use clean sheets.:chuckle:chuckle jk.
black would be my preference if I did that. I may just use your idea. When I wear white linen cloths I get white fibers on the seat,,, drives me crazy. I also notice around the seams that it has a grayish look .. worn look... i THINK these seats are cheap. My last car had grey seats.. after 12 years they still looked new... I could even take my dog in the car and you would never know she was in it. I think those seats didn't even attract her fur. I never notice any hair on my clothes after she was in the car.... oh ya wait... I never sat in the passanger seat after she was in it as I was the driver... lol..
I should ask my passangers if they had an *ss full of hair :chuckle:chuckle

They have seat covers that don't block the airbags now on ebay.
