I hate to get on you right away but please try to search for this. Many members with white cars have this problem. I get it every year, so I doubt it's rail dust.
Solution for the season...clay bar. :)

OMG, dont even get my started on this. First off, this is why u dont get a white car. 2nd, this is why you dont let your gf get a white car. They look nice but require more effort to maintain to keep clean (IMO)
I spent like 2 hours doing a panel at a time on thursday claying her car. My car is still rough on the surface. I still need to clay but rail dust is not visible.
End result: squeeky clean white hatch + back pains
Well worth doing tho, when i first started, i was so amazed I was taking it all off.

I hear you as it's a HUGE pain, but would still get a white car though. :chuckle

I have lots of these on my car. I'm not looking forward to "claying" this summer.

Turtle Wax Bug and Tar remover, also leaves a light coat of wax spray bottle works well removing a lot of contaminants that clay bars can do with a quarter of the effort. Its a surfacant, breaks down and lifts, safe for the finish also
