hey marsh...how much will csc charge for something like this...you think you can get us a GB price? I'm all for supporting the locals.

Just call them and ask. They're 4 point CASC approved roll bar for a miata is $485.

Of course they have jigs for that roll bar. If you get enough people together to justify the cost of a jig then the price goes down and STAYS down for anyone ordering them in the future.

harness bars arent a good idea.... say you roll over, the bar will keep you straight in your seat and the roof will crush... your neck now supports the whole roof of the car and we all know what that means

if you're wearing a normal seat belt you would just twist down in your seat maybe get hurt bad but not dead...

i can understand a harness bar for autox as a rollover is extremely rare... but for tracking you're better off with a roll bar at the very least if you want serious belts

imo you'd be better off with a cg-lock

sorry to hate on your thread just throwing out a thought

Thanks for sharing the info...and I agree with some of your points about roll-overs and such....so I don't think you "hated" on the thread...

I think you'd agree that it's an even worst idea to bolt the harness down to say the rear seat's anchor.

I've talked with guys about the CG-Lock..and I've seen it in action...problem is that it doesn't really fit the 3 and our seatbelt lock, as per mleblond. So when I weighed out the options, the harness bar seems to be a good compromise.

please feel free to share...all comments only add to the knowledge for everyone.

and Marsh, should I call CSC or will you be asking? =)

i'll try my cg-lock on my buddy's 3 this weekend - i'll report back

and yea, bolting the harness to the floor is bad news as you can get hurt without a rollover

Have not ordered, don't think I will this year. Plan at the moment is to spend as little on the car this summer as possible. Might change my mind later, but I wouldn't count on it.

I've got the same plan in mind. If I do plan to order late summer, I'll PM you. Thanks for the heads up thou on the product. That's exactly something I'd be looking for.

I seen the thread and the site. My only concern: eventho these belts comes attached with "bolt-on" hardware, does it address the angle of the harness application relative to the driver? if you apply the harness and its bolt-on mechanism downwards, doesn't it create downward pressure on the person, in the evnt of a crash/roll-over?

it's much simpler and cheaper, I must say, but I wonder about the safety of it all...

it appears there are no perfect solution out there, but just a bunch of compromises to choose from.

You're screwed in any roll over with a harness though, unless you have a cage or roll bar.

I agree about your point WRT to angle of the belts. The fact that Schroth designs them to mount that way makes me feel better personally. You could always try the Ralleye 3 design too, allows you to mount it to the C pillar seat belt location. Not sure if thats possible with the 3.

I wonder if the anti-submarine design has anything to do with the reason Schroth approves mounting it like that. The extra bit of material sewn in would cause your shoulders to come forward at different rates. Just a random guess, but that may help ease the stresses which would be applied to your spine in a crash.

Could be completely wrong though.

Fobio, I used my CG lock in my '05 GT at the event we met at.

BTW if you want something more secure than a CG lock without the problems of a 4 point in a car with no roll-over protection. Then you can buy just the lap belt. In fact from 2001 to 2008 the autoslalom rule book only required lap belts. At the autoslalom I would leave the shoulder straps at home, dispense with the 3 point and just wear my LEAF lap belt. MUCH more confortable as I like to move up on the wheel when I drive autoslalom. Before 2001 I would wear the 3 point and then wear the lap belt over top. With the miata I didn't want to bother with mounting the extra belt or go through the bother of wearing both so I bought the CG lock.

BTW I had the harness because back in 1998, when I started out, you HAD to have a 4 point in order to do lapping or solo-1 events.

So...Schroth Ralleye 4 installed. First autocross since installing is tomorrow. I'll throw a review up after.

Just bumping this thread to see how many ppl are considering harnesses. Perhaps it's a good time to start a new thread to discuss running harnesses either with a bar or proper anchors.
