Why have the asshat when some mods think it's a personaly attack on someone. I have used it before and get told that it's a personaly attack...so why even have it their then?

It should be removed so we can't use it freely other wise we shouldn't get scrolled for using it...my $.02

It's really all about the context in which you use an emoticon. Sure, some people over use it, but there are times when it can make an impact and not be a "personal attack".

If you want to stop using it so freely, why not just stop using all emoticons unless you really want to make an impact.

"Asshat" on it's own is funny. The word came from the same site that coined the term FARK. Put in context the word like anything else can mean entirely different things. I have no problem using the asshat smile when the conversation is light hearted and poking fun at each other. I do have a problem when the converstions escalate to flame wars and people pull the "asshat" out to attack another person's character. That to me is a personal attack and has absolutely nothing to do with debating the topic. You might as well call the other person a farking ******* because the intent is the same.

I would hope that people can understand the difference.

You do have access. When you reply click on the "go advanced button." Now you will see the Smiles section on the right of your reply box. Click on "more" and you will get the whole smiles list.
