why would you choose a short ram air intake instead of a cold air intake ( the one that goes behind your bumper ) ... short ram just sucks in hot air around the engine bay .... the other one actually makes sense since its getting air from behind the bumper area where its cooler....
any explainations?

That's one thing IMO.
I got rid of my CAI for cosmetic purposes. The Simota SRI looks so damn sexy!

i think thats about it...
people say you get more low end power with an SRI?
best bet is to get a CAI that can be converted to SRI :) like the K&N Typhoon or the Injen :bana2

lol you mean like two peice piping? ... makes sense ... but ya i live in brampton ... we get rain obv ... like today ... but i dont think this is enough to hydrolock my engine lol ... plus wouldnt the plastic sheild under my car protect any water splashes from getting to the cai?

I've used both, and IMO... I saw no difference at all.

it does sound nicer, get more performance than with one than with an air filter. I found the filter did improve throttle response though.

A SRI has a SLIGHTLY (negligible) more torque and throttle respone.
CAI will provide SLIGHTLY more HP.

I've posted enough "long-winded" responses to this so basically it's EXACTLY what solo said (without getting too technical)
SRI = low-end torque, great for people worried about hydro-lock, easy to install
CAI = little more difficult to install, better torque throughout the RPM range (not as good at low-end compared to SRI) and more for a "daily driver" IMO
