Is anybody running the mazdaspeed coilovers? Any thoughts? Or other manufacturer alternatives?

bc coilovers are the cheapest out there. And are supposed to be pretty good, if you get mazdaspeeds get them with the mazdaspeed discount (1200$ USD) other ones include Teins especially if you want edfc

$1100 usd.

KW also makes a couple sets. They're also the manufacturer of the Mazdaspeeds.

EDFC is pretty cool, but the MS3-specific Mazdaspeed coil-overs are on top of the list right now. H&R is supposed to be pretty good as well. If you got hook-ups, let us know...otherwise, the Mazdaspeed Development discount works out to under $1300USD shipped...and with today's dollar, makes them very tempting.

$1100-1300USD is a GREAT price for full coilovers. You won't get Tein's for that price...

I have a lightly used EDFC system if anyone goes with Teins, FYI. I also have a good hookup for Tein's down in Cali (Marcus from HT)

unfortunately no connections -darn- but may have to void the warranty like mleblond to get a set?? Trying to keep the costs down:chuckle

I notice on Tein's website that they are under development. Does anybody know if they are available yet? Some have mentioned Kw's too. Ok, dumb question, what are the differences between all of these, other than manufacturer? What makes one better than another?

lol you should try the cobb F+R sway bars first... makes a HUGE difference in cornering reponse!!

buying parts from MS Development should not void your warranty...

the Mazdaspeed MS3-specific coilovers are in fact KW variant 3's, which I believe is their top of the line retail coil overs. so for that price, it is hard to beat.

the drop is mild, I think less than an inch... but then again, that should not be the reason you'd get these coilovers.

Yeah, but you can only buy parts to install on competition vehicles. The second the car is used in competition the warranty is bye bye.

Important bits are highlighted.

All suggested modifications and recommendations are intended solely for use on vehicles participating in off-highway competition events. Purchaser acknowledges that all Mazda vehicle warranties are voided if the vehicle is used in any Competition events. The purchaser accepts all responsibility for modifications to said vehicle(s) and all potential risks.

They may aid in initial turn in, but will actually make the car run much wider on anything less than freshly prepared racing surface while on slicks. Not ideal for a street car. Grip is sacrificed with stiffer sway bars.

Would anyone be able to share the part number for the MS3 specific Mazdaspeed coilover? (I no longer have access to Mazdaspeed Motorsports site)

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but rather than start a new thread, I figured I'd post here. With regards to the purchases from Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development, I've never had it result in the voiding of my warranty. Maybe because Canada and US don't talk, but I used my MSP from almost Day 1 in motorsports competition, with MSMD support, and kept my full warranty intact. Maybe I was just lucky.

Anyway, that's not why I came looking in this thread.

I want to find out people's opinions on the various coil-over options available for 2010 Mazdaspeed 3's. Also what is the difference in the rear between the 07-09's and the 2010's, because from I can gather the fronts are the same but something in the rear has changed based on Koni part #'s.

Ideally, I'm looking for a high end performance oriented part, not looking for the biggest drop, but best performance as I plan to compete in Time Attacks with this car. The car is not winter driven, and if I ever started to, I'd take the coils off for the winter. So if price is not a factor (I'm not saying it isn't, but I want to decide based on all options), what is available for the 2010 speed 3 that you're aware of. I want something that can handle significantly increased spring rates, or that will be possible to have re-valved locally to do that. Maybe I'm going to be looking at custom Motons, but if I can avoid spending $3k on dampers that'd be ideal.

My other investigation is how big a tire I can stuff under there, I don't mind rolling my fenders, and I have some reading to do on the Mazda Speed Forums, as I know some have run 255's down there, but just wondering if anyone local has done it, what suspension and wheel/tire combo they ran. If I have it my way, I'd like to run 255/40R17's for competition.

I was gonna say don't be a *****, and just go with motons. Best there is. 255s, even with no drop, are gonna require some hella fender rolling.

Brian, I've been heavily looking into a wheel and tire setup for the 2010 speed3. From what I have measured there is 10" between the rear shock and the inner fender lip. The rear lip can be rolled but contact will still happen where the bumper and fender meet. I'm soon to these a 25mm spacer on the rear of the car with an RX8 wheel to see if it clears. The fronts cleared no problem, even with the car lowered. I have a feeling though that the 255/40-17 will only fit on an 8.5" wheel to keep the section width a hair within the 10". I've decided for myself that this summer, I'll be running 17x9's +48mm with 245/40-17. This seems to be the most amount of rubber on the car without fender rolling and fully supported, since most 255's prefer a 9" wheel and 245's prefer an 8.5. I have been finding it rather difficult to find a 8.5" wheel with a decent offset for this car so I went with a 9" wheel.

what offset do you consider decent?

Something that will put the centre of the new wider wheel in stock position so as not to drag it around in an arc.

Hey guys,

I was planning to get the megan racing coilovers for the speed. Has anyone tried these or have any thoughts on them?

My thoughts are that they are made in Taiwan, and that's enough for me not to waste my time or money.

Cusco makes descent coilovers for $1300 spring rates are 7kg F, 4kg R. If you think these aren't stiff enough, you can always replace the springs and ohnlins has some crazy ass stiff spring rates to 8-12kg.
