Traktor is what I use when I DJ. Better than Serato IMO, but that's just me. Thanks for spinnin it guy...feel free to spread it fellow DJs.

Thanks gents for the feedback! I'll be doin a few remixes outside of my artist productions so keep an eye out.

I've got other remixes yes. There are a few on my MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/experiencedelavega) page. The ones on there are mostly of Canadian artists you might be familiar with. You hear them on Flow 93.5. Lemme know if you'd like a copy of those remixes and I'll send them to you no prob (goes for anybody reading this).

Check 'em out: http://www.myspace.com/experiencedelavega

At the moment, I'm working on a Keri Hilson remix. I've also gotten requests to do some classic R&B or Hip-Hop. We'll see... :)

That jam was in Oshawa at UOIT and my biggest jam yet...i was so nervous.

My DXM09 is starting to bleed a tiny bit but nonetheless it's a really good 3-chan mixer. And trust me, Traktor is 20 times better than Serato!!!!

+1... what SW do you use to make your remixes? how do you get the various layers of songs (instramental/vocal etc.) to be able to overlay on a different track?

I'll chime in on how i do mine. You can use a simple piece of software called Virtual DJ and you can match the acapella to the speed of the instrumental, or likewise. Then simply record.

Instrumentals can be found on many many sites such as blogspots and acapellas as well. Or you could go to www.acapellas.co.uk and they have a large database there.

Happy mixing! But All-Star's the TM3 producer so i'd like to know what he uses as well.

I've been using Steinberg Cubase (http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/musicproduction.html) since the late 90's (back then Cubase VST). Cubase 5 is the current version. In my opinion, it's probably the most powerful software for music creation today. There's also ProTools (http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=28&langid=100&) and Logic Studio (http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/) for the Mac users. These three all do the same thing pretty much equally. If you're solely interested in "remixing" software, check out Ableton Live (http://www.ableton.com/products) or Sony Acid (http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/products/acidfamily.asp). Both are pretty powerful and easy to use.

In a nutshell, I would take the acapella of a song along with the original, put each on a separate track in Cubase and line them up so they play in time. Then I mute the original and start composing my own idea around the acapella. Sometimes I start by making a drum beat but most of the time l start with some kind of synth line. I keep adding percussion and synth elements on separate tracks until I'm happy.

>>> If you want to see how I put together a track from scratch, watch this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tON8rnraXtg) of me and a rising Toronto artist in the studio. We're using Cubase. I'm the one wearing the striped sweater.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tON8rnraXtg

I'm producing the bulk of his upcoming album. Coming soon!! I have another video of how to make a song from scratch. I did it in 5 minutes live inside the Apple store @ Yorkdale. I'll see if I can put that on YouTube for you guys.

HAHAH You betcha!! Well, I was limited to software programs and not actual tables - but I used to have a bunch of programs back in the day and would play around with mixes or make my own stuff (which are soo cheese)

It'll take me a bit to re-learn this program, but I'll be sure to post a little mix once I get one down. LOL BRRRRRAP BRRAP!! Moore fiyah!

I started DJ'ing using this basic software called Virtual Turntables (VTT). Then I moved on to Traktor and since then it's been my weapon of choice. On occasion I use Torq and Serato but in the end it's all the same.

What kinda mix will you be putting together for us??? :)

crystal8484

Most likely some house/electro/pop stuff.
That's all I kind of know how to mix. hahaha

I should post my old ghetto tracks I made when I was like 14. hahahahah they're so bad. I'll look into those other programs and see what they're about. :)
