Hey all,

So I've just watched the CP24 regarding the city of Toronto strike and it's current position of "no end to be seen yet". I've got wondering, it sucks that it is about to happen right on Canada Day...

Why don't we, as the big and great community that we are, pick up the sticks (formal saying) and organize a clean up around GTA? So I've done some research on this and here is what we would need to take care of:

We'd need to set up a sort of central stand where people can drop by to give donations that would cover the costs of things like gloves, garbage bags, and whatever other tools we'd need. It would also cover the cost of gas for those volunteering their trucks to take the garbage to designated garbage drop off locations:

1.
Disco Transfer Station
120 Disco Rd
(Dixon Rd. & Carlingview Dr area)
2.
Dufferin Transfer Station
35 Vanley Cr
(Chesswood Dr & Sheppard Ave. W. area)
3.
Victoria Park Transfer Station
3350 Victoria Park Ave
(Victoria Park Ave & Finch Ave. E. area)
4.
Commissioners Street Transfer Station
400 Commissioners St
(Lake Shore Blvd. E. & Logan Ave area)
5.
Scarborough Transfer Station
1 Transfer Pl
(Markham Rd & Sheppard Ave. E. area)

However, two transfer stations will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to accept both residential and commercial garbage:

Bermondsey Transfer Station
188 Bermondsey Rd
(Eglinton Ave. E. & Victoria Park Ave. area)

Ingram Transfer Station
50 Ingram Dr
(Keele St. & Eglinton Ave. W. area)

How can we make this a big one? I obviously wanted to start this off here to see if we can even get an interest in people willing to help the community. There isn't even a date set yet, but seeing as how the strike is on-going, and Canada Day is on Wednesday officially, we need to get the ball rolling YESTERDAY-style.

Obviously this is too short of time to get this organized for the coming Wednesday holiday, but non-the-less I figure that most festivities and celebrations will occur on the weekend.. So I am thinking either on Friday or Saturday though the day.

Right now, keep in mind the dates that I am thinking about and please post in this to show your support or criticism. Anyone willing to help organize this is also a big plus as I plan to make this a bigger event. I plan on doing to by first collecting the result from TSCers and then going abroad with this (by the end of today) to other car clubs such as TorontoMazda3, Toronto Civic, JDM Rides, etc. On top of all things, I will create an even on facebook where I will literally invite everyone on my guest list.. That is a good 400+ people as it is. If they invite all of their friends, that will be even more and so on. Hopefully we can get 1000+ people in on this by the weekend if all things work out well.

Next up, we'd need to set up a central location for where everything will be organized. Where everyone will come to meet us and pick up their materials. Also at the same place we can set up a donations booth as well as a paypal account to get the financial help of others.

This could be also a great way to get high school kids to come out that need to complete their community service hours!

Now tell me, am I crazy or is this actually do-able?
