Civics = Race Cars???

Now this is going to be a bit of a rant.

I don't want to pigeonhole all the Civic owners out there, because even I like the car personally and know enough not to paint everyone with the same brush. There are some nice Civics. I will apologize now if I hurt anyone's feelings out there who feel that I am unfairly stereotyping.

We drove into Toronto today for a July 1st BBQ. First time in a while that we went to "the big city". What am I assaulted with for a good portion of my drive on the 401? Poorly modded POS Honda Civics! Driving like Mario, in and out of traffic, racing, cutting people off etc. Not all at the same time like a swarm of them, but more or less evenly spread out.

One would go by at >130 weaving through traffic with his 19" wheels, huge ass exhaust and of course a few pounds of painted over rust. Then within a few seconds a 2nd would fly by trying to catch the 1st one! Trying to prove which POS is better? Which Civic with the 50HP muffler is louder and faster:bana? Come on!!!!

This goes on for my drive home as well and I have to say the early 90s Accords were right there with them. At least I passed one on the side of the 401 with 5 surrounding OPP cruisers watching a tow truck load this guy's pride and joy onto a flatbed. :chuckle

Even in my town I can't drive my Speed 3 anywhere after dusk without a guy in a Civic (Cavalier/Sunfire take your pick) trying to "prove his worth". Leave me alone! Am I a magnet for wannabe racers? The Speed 3 I know isn't the fastest thing on the road, but come on. Read the back, do some research and welcome yourself to reality! Just once I'll have to embarrass one with his GF in the car.

lol..your right about this..back in the day when i had my truck i used to get punks trying to race me...i would edge them on then when the light would turn green they would hammer the gas and i would just take off normal and laugh my ass off...

i'm wondering what makes us Mazda guys different than these "civic/sunfire/accord" guys.. Speed3 aside the MZ3 is in the same class as a civic. Should we not be called mazda3=race cars as well?

the MZ3 is fairly new so of course we wont see as many out there as civics.. but in the coming years whan the MZ3 gets more popular are when then going to become what the civics are today?

Scarborough has plenty as well. And well considering the prices of these cars have dropped tremendously it's the NEW Civic nowadays...

I think majority (not all, as I know some civic owners) copy cat the street racing scene. I think civics were classified as street racing punks because of this Documentary years back broadcast from A&E

To be honest, I find the guys in the modded Sunfires/Cavaliers/Z24's to be the worst here in Newmarket. We seem to have a lot of them. I just attribute that they must be on a day pass from Keswick. (York Region joke...:chuckle)

I also find that most of the Mini Cooper S and 3 series BMW drivers here do know what a Mazdaspeed3 is and are just as every bit 'street racer stupid' as any Civic=race car driver.

like wtf. whats the point of putting an exhaust system on a car you just got from the junkyard. I dont ****ing get it

and all the times the exhaust is hanging down, not even properly put in. there are never any rims on the car, just the colour of the black stock tire rims...

theres always scratches on the rear bumper and a ****ing low rider front bumper thats either the wrong fit or looks like shit.

dont forget one door or the hood is always a different colour than the rest of the car

You know, the k20A2 in the RSX type S is actually really popular for cars. Search on youtube and you'll see lotus, mini poopers, and a few other cars use K20. Its mainly because hondata have a pretty good turnable ECU for this car for turbo or for full NA setup with ITB. Yes, it might make power at 5k rpm but i would say the k20 is actually much more reliable then a BK3P engine or a speed3 engine.

I know i'm a civic guy and i know you'll think i'm biased but i'm only talking about the K20A2 from the RSX type S. The k20 i have in my civic sucks because of the DBW.

But I do have to agree that a lot of POS civics out there that ruin the name.

Sunfires and cavaliers are the absolute worst. Strap on some ugly body kit and put some altezza tailights and VOILA! Racer over night!

Around where I live it's the Cavaliers, Sunfires and Neons most prominently too. Insert fake HID bulbs that are WAY too bright, a retarded wing, pea soup can exhaust plus whatever you can find in the isles of Canadian Tire and there you have it.

No, I don't feel like risking my license to prove that your 125HP POS is not fast! Would be like me egging on a guy in a Z06 Vette for a race. Stoopid.
