Just uploaded my Cobb AP on saturday. Running the Stage 2+ 91octane map right now. Just downloaded ATR from Cobb also so look forward to fooling with that.
Anyone thinking of getting one, go for it now! Makes a big difference in the feel of the car. My only con is that the throttle seems extra jumpy at part throttle/low boost.
2nd gear is not totally useless, but luckily I have new tires on the way also.
I have noticed that I hit the boost targets in 3rd and 4th, but not 5th and 6th. I assume this was programmed in by Mazda or Cobb to ease the load on the motor. Has anyone else noticed this.
J
Did you mean that 2nd gear is NOW totally useless, or NOT totally useless?
I can brake the tires loose in 2nd by stomping on the gas and it'll chirp all the way till nearly top end of 2nd... It's awesome. ;) But I have brand new tires. I imagine with tires on their way out, I'd be spinning the tires in 2nd and not going anywhere...
How do you like the power after 5500rpm? ;) Also, your car is probably still learning the new maps... That may be why you aren't hitting your boost targets in 5th or 6th....

My stock RE050A's are down to about 30% tread, but I find that 1st is all spinning, 2nd tends to hook up until about 4000rpm then starts to chirp to redline.
I am getting great love over 5500rpm. the car pulls fairly strong all the way to fuel cut. Although I haven't ventured there much.
In 5th the car spikes to 22psi, then settles around 18psi, but by 4250rpm is starting to drop to 16psi and sitting there. In 6th the activity is about the same although it seems to drop to 16psi just before 4000rpm. I figured this was just to ease the load on the engine at high vehicle speeds.
In 3rd and 4th I get spikes to 22psi and then it settles in right about 17.5psi for most of the RPM tapering to 15psi by redline.

congrats on finding powa to redline! =)
some of the easy ATR fixes detailed here and MSF will help with the jerky throttle....and if you haven't already done so, it's a good idea to keep an eye out on your LTFT and try your hands at calibrating the MAF table as per Cobb's documentation. Good luck!

Is there a good right up explaining all the different things to watch? I have gone through some on MSF and on here but am still lost

I will be able to monitor my LTFT's through teh data logging I hope once I get the AP driver properly installed. I run Vista 64-bit at home so I can't get the AP unit to connect to the computer, eventhough the driver exists. Cobb says it is a problem a few people have and I should just install a new operating system. yeah right.

Nothing in particular...but for safety, I'd watch (when I had the DashHawk) KR/RPM/Fuel Pressure/LTFT, along with BAT and AFR.
With regards to calibrating the MAF table, you 'd have to follow Cobb's instructions.

I usually monitor with the AP itself, but I know where you're coming from as I'm using Win7 x64 on my main rig...I'm lucky enough to have a little netbook running XP that I use ATR on and I datalog with it too, so it makes it very convenient.

Not 100% sure, but I believe some have gotten the software working through Windows emulation on MACs. You'd have to research to be completely sure though.
Also, we are a local dealer for all things Cobb, and sold spd frk his unit.

tried to use the AP software on my mac with Parallels, everything seemed fine at first but when I tried to download logs would not do it. Put the software on my PC running vista and all worked fine.
Don't know if it was because I was trying to run it on windows 7 or if it was the emulation software.

Just installed my AP tonight... can't believe the difference with all stock parts. Can't wait to get and intake/downpipe installed and switch up the maps. Glad I have new tires! The car is going into the dealer on Tuesday... should I completely uninstall it or just switch it over to the stock maps before going in?

Is there maps available that are pre-loaded into this thing for mods that are already done to the car?
I don't have much done.. but I don't want to have to tune myself.. mine is on order right now..

Yes, it comes preloaded with lots of maps. Just don't update the AP until you install it on your car.

So I upload the map according to what I have installed on my car, and then update the AP? Just out of curiousity sake, what is the point of updating it? I'm new to this side of the tuning world..
(BTW, sorry about the thread hi-jack)..

Yeah, it has a bunch of maps pre-loaded on it. So you just pick the one that is closest to your setup when you first install it. Think of it as an ipod, you can update it with the latest software by plugging it into your computer. It's fine to update it before installing it on your car, just don't load any news maps from the cobb website onto it until you have it installed on your car. For some reason it won't install if you load new maps onto it before hand. (found that out last night) It's simple to install, you will see.

Alright sweet bro, thank you.
BTW, is it true that I can increase boost parameters and the AP will auto adjust to compensate for fuel etc? I'd really like to get 18psi from the car..

Just make sure you pay attention to your logs and your important parameters, don't just get in the car and go nuts. all the OTS maps are for either a MS cai, a COBB SR or a stock intake and they warn you that these maps are only for these intakes, I don't know how important these warnings are (they also tell you to only use stock BOV but I use Turbosmart and dont seem to have a problem with overboost as they say might happen)
download the map notes off the COBB website and browse them or the COBB forums there is a tonne of info on there.

Sweet, thank you for the heads up.. I don't have much done to the car, but I do believe it will help.
Going to go read now..
I'm planning on getting the AP in the next few months. Is the difference that big even on the stock car? Cause I'm not getting any other mods this year.

Do a little more research on it. To see it in action, theres tons of clips in youtube. I only have a COBB SRI and I am looking towards into getting the AP come august this year. The fact that you can data logg and have full control of the stock ecu and can restore stock ecu settings for dealer visits is freaking awesome. I was set to just get a Dashhawk this year but after reading more into the AP, I am kinda hoooked. The only con is that you can only view one parameters at a time with the AP but all can be viewed through your Data Logs.

ah crap, that means I have to use my desktop to view my logs.. pffft.. I hate logging into my desktop.
oh and sorry to bump this up. Might be purchasing the AP in the next two weeks or so..
Pat, can you PM me your price for this if you ever have one in stock? Thanks..

+1.
Parallels or even bootcamp "should" work without any problems. I have run many apps on my windows partition with no issues.

Just tried it with my macbook running leopard and parallels and it all worked fine until I tried to download the logs, then it just won't go any further. The download bar goes back and forth but to no avail, thought it just might be because of windows 7 but tried with vista and XP and had the exact same results.
am going to give it a try with bootcamp this week and see if I have any better luck.
I think that it may work that way?

so, are there any Cobb tuning specialists/shops in Toronto?
Or are we SOL and just play with the tunes ourselves?

you want a Cobb tuner that is familiar with the MS3/6 ECU. The tuning methods that work so well on the EVO and STI platforms don't translate well to the MS3/6. .
1) realtime tuning doesn't work through ATP or ATR
2) the MS3/6 uses Calculated Load to determine torque output
3) get into big power and there's a load cap that requires scaling of certain parameters in order to come under the Calculated Load cap
Those 3 things will have the tuner going WTF!
Neetronics is highly regarded in the GTA for Subies and the GT-R but they've never touched a MS3/6 and you don't want to be the guinea pig if they haven't done their research on the MS3/6 ECU.
Your best bet is to go on MSF and read through all the threads on tuning with the AP and ATR. If you've got light mods, download an OTS map, do the MAF calibration, and then apply the throttle smoothing fix in ATR. You'll be better off starting from there...then, once a local tuner is up to speed (pun intended) on the MS3/6 ECU, then you can go to them - whoever they may be - to get ProTuned.
If you want to get ProTuned NOW and you're willing to travel, there's Akuma motorsports in NJ that knows the MS3/6 ECU well.

those 3 things listed by MBNTO are exactly why I'm doing my own tuning.
and 2 out of those 3 things, I have already sorted out for myself. if you want to tune for power, you have to do these before you attempt to play with load and timing.

AP installed!
I've got the OTS maps installed, still need to do MAF calibration and throttle smoothing (and of course enable launch control!) BUT I'm having an issue with my dongle (lol).
If I knock it the wrong way (even slightly), or go over a big bump, the AP loses power. I tried adjusting the locking tab, and have verified its not the USB cable. I was nervous about flashing with what could be a loose connection, but it worked. Anyway, just wondering - anyone else have this issue? I read on some of the other forums that some people have resorted to removing the OBDII port and zip-tieing the dongle tight against the port. I refuse to do this.
Looking forward to posting my logs soon.

Nice! Congrats... You should contact Cobb and replace your dongle before it falls off. :chuckle They'll take care of you.

+1 You dont want the plug to ever come off while flashing coz this could brick your ECU.
