Okay so after 3 years of owning my 42" Dell Plasma TV it decides to go south on me. Absolutely no picture only sound. I was trolling the internet and saw that quite a few Dell owners have gone through the same issue.

Does anyone know a reliable plasma TV repair place? Right now I have a $3,000 paper weight in my living room.:flaming

Joe... did it have a 1 year warranty or 2? Did you buy it on a Visa or Mastercard? If so BB msg me which credit card u charged it on.

I feel your pain......my 32" LG LCD (32LB9D) set conked out on me a few days ago. The repair shop determined that the main board @cost of $370 had to be replaced. Luckily this part is covered by the extended warranty so I'm just waiting for the part to arrive.

lol john. I've got my trusty panasonic crt in my room. Been going strong for 13 years. They sure don't make tv's like they used to.
Actually a lot old electronics were built better than what's out now. Weird how that works.

I cheaped out and opted not to get the extra warranty. I paid it through my Dell account.

ack... k. nevermind.
After you posted I've been reading up on that model and it seems it's a common issue... :(
Sounds like it's better to get a new unit rather than fix, but when I get home I'll try to find the number to a repair shop, hopefully they can fix it.

FYI, I was at a tiger direct 2 nights ago - there was a 72" (!!!!) Samsung going for $1000, INCLUDING the 2-year in house service.

1080p, 120Hz, 4 HDMI...

I'm still contemplating it.

It's not a typo. I can post a picture later, from my phone. 72".

It was in it's box, but it might have been a returned unit?

Edit: Sorry, 3 HDMI and it's a DLP.

Dell's response to me was:

"We're sorry but we no longer support or sell products related to your television, but you can contact a local t.v. repair place and see if they can help you."

"Thank you for your business and have a pleasant day."

The in-laws have that Samsung DLP model - paid a lot more than this from Leon's. It's great though and they're very happy with it so far.

Sorry to hear about the Dell Joe, at least they are "thankful" for your business.

Damn Joe, thats piss poor customer service. I'll never consider a Dell product after hearing all of the problems members have been having.

3 years ago I received a 32" 720p LCD by Samsung from my parents as a housewarming gift. One year and two months later flames were coming out of the rear vent. Luckily I raced over from the kitchen and managed to put out the fire. Unfortunately my parents didn't get the extended warranty.

Called the 1 800 Samsung # and they asked me to send pics of the damage to the tv. Even sent them some of the smoke marks on the wall. One week later I had it picked up for them to inspect. Another week passed by and they called me to apologize for the inconvenience and promised to replace my set even though it was out of warranty. At the end of the call, they asked if there was anything else they could do......I joking asked for a 1080p LCD. The operator put me on hold for 3 minutes and came back asking if a 40" 1080p model will do.

Needless to say I am enjoying it to this day. Even my parents and sister ended up picking up Samsungs in the last year due to my experience.

i think they easily gave that too you because they could have been liable for damage and more.

Yup, they wanted to avoid any type of litigation. Did a search on my 32" model and found zero complaints about the tv going up in flames. Besides a few weeks without my tv and having to wipe down the smoked walls, I came out pretty good.

I would still go with a 40-42" 1080p LCD/Plasma for $1000...

The only reason to get the 72" DLP is if your sitting 35+ft away.. in total darkness and are perfectly lined up to it...

Just an update on this, my TV is currently at The TV Guy just north of Steeles. I dropped it off there last Saturday and he gave me a price of $350 to fix it. Not bad considering all the other places didn't even want to look at a Dell plasma. Apparently the whiteboard needs to be replaced. The guy gives a 3 month warranty as well. So we'll see how it works out.
