I did some searching here but can't seem to find my answer ...

I'm interested in a MS CAI for my 08.5 MS3 but I'm not having a lot of luck. It's my understanding that Mazda discontinued them for some reason (I couldn't find out why though) ... am I in a position where I'm strictly looking for a used one at this point? I've ordered parts from US Mazda dealers in the past for my old Miata when they haven't been available in Canada, has anyone had any luck finding them new lately?

If I've missed a post addressing this issue, I apologize in advance.

Cheers.

they're discontinued, but there's talk that they may bring it back under the MS branding. It's really an AEM intake, but I think they charge more. So if you want the MS-CAI, you either have to buy used, or pray and wait. In the meantime, there are lotsa other choices out there from US aftermarket brands to some homegrown solutions offered by TM3 sponsors. Good luck...and welcome to the MS3 family.

^^Yeah...that's what I meant. Glad to hear it's back!

Also, what I meant was that the AEM intake (which Mazdaspeed rebrands as MS) is MORE expensive than the MS-CAI...so get the MS-CAI from a dealer and installed by a dealer for warranty concerns!

So in winter, if any water goes in the engine and it was the dealer who installed the CAI, dealer has to fix the issue caused by the Ms-CAI?

lol...not anything that I'd know about...but there are several threads about this on TM3...

what I meant specifically, is that it can come as a dealer installed option or you can purchase it and install it at your own dealer...for those that like the comfort of such.

just buy a cobb sri from cta pat. easier to change, less expensive, easier to clean, no hydro lock and no lean issues if you use the ap and other mods down the road

If you drive through a puddle and hydrolock your motor its your tough luck. Warranty doesn't cover stupidity. The risk of a CAI is you dunk it, but if you keep in mind that you have one before you forde any water you should be okay.

I have had CAI's on various cars for 7 years and have never had a problem once.

I have the AEM CAI, no problems so far but I'm also pretty new. How wet does it have to get to lock?

Basically the filter has to be submerged in water for it to pull in enough to lock the engine. Just don't go in any 1 foot deep puddles and you're fine.

if i'm not mistaken the aem cai has an air straightener, the ms cai does not. I don't understand why ms didn't opt for it.
