Problem: My girlfriend has a tour. And when she sends a text like " Hi how are you " the person recieving it will get symbols like @!$ etc. Now, when she tries sending an email or recieving one, it doesnt send. However, When she's on blackberry messenger, everything is fine. Anyone encountered this problem?

So, I make due with this one for a year (and really its almost a slightly better phone than the 9700 apart from it being 3G and trackpad) then upgrade for free to any BB of my choosing and probs a lot less then they run now.

It's a good investment especially after selling my Pearl for $200!

I hate to be a party pooper, but it's not going to work. The new bell network is not old school GSM, it's 3G yes, but 3G HDSPA. 850/1900 GSM network range phones will not work.

I'm cancelling with Bell.

I've been talking with their customer service for the past 2 hours and the final result was "I don't know why it doesn't work. Your phone is broken" Was the exact wording I got, after being hung up on, given the wrong numbers to call twice and telling me to go to the stores and do what I'd already DONE before calling in today.

I called Rogers, and got an answer within 10 seconds as to what's wrong - which Bell should have known and prevented me from buying this, are matching my plan with Bell, waiving my activation fee and giving me a free brand new Blackberry. I guess Rogers wants my service, unlike Bell who didn't seem to care that their reps gave me wrong info. :complain

I know all companies are technically the same, but after 10 years of service with Bell and they don't seem to care that their customer has been misinformed by THEM, then I can happily tell them where to stick it.

I have a headache now. Argh. LOL

Just keep in mind though that... Rogers is pretty much sold out on the Bold2 (HoFo). And when they give you/modify prices (example hen i called Rogers for negotiation on my own bold2), you can't just pick one up from a store.

Basically it just depends on how soon you need the phone. :)

my gf has the tour for bell. her simcard works, but im kind of confused with bell aswell, because the bell reps said, she can use the tour with or without the simcard. I have the t5 screw driver that i need. I've seen some video on how to do it, but i was reading in some other forums that it's hard to do since there's little pieces and how i neeed adhersive tape for the lcd screen etc.

I want to replace my silver biezel and my trackball on my bold 9000. Is it hard to do? I ordered my black biezel which came in, with the black buttons. Just waiting on my black trackball. I have the t5 screw driver that i need. I've seen some video on how to do it, but i was reading in some other forums that it's hard to do since there's little pieces and how i neeed adhersive tape for the lcd screen etc.


Anyone here who replaced their beizel can confirm this?

The install is simple...you shouldnt have any problems...have changed housings/trackballs/keypads on curves/bolds.

I did it to my bold...did only housing didnt change the trackball (left it white but will change to red soon).

You don't need adhesive tape for the lcd screen or anything. It is really simple to do. Only tedious thing is the side buttons taking it off the original and putting it onto your new housing (depending on what you order) but other then that, its not that hard. That being said, I've done it numerous times but you should find it pretty simple.

I currently have my bold 9000 in pieces as we speak.( yea I know im crazy ) I ordered a black biezel and realized that the charging pins wont charge as I would have to replace them with my old ones. If anyone knows how to swap the old pieces onto my new biezel, can you chime in?

Try just taking it out and rotating it (the top becomes the bottom and vice versa) ...worked for me

I think i MIGHT have put it in wrong, so ill try switching it up. like sometimes it will go right, but not go left or get stuck. And I have a feeling that my trackball might be a bit smaller compared to the OEM one.. but not too sure if that's a problem.

Pain to hook on? remember, the square trackball housing can only so up or down based on the little metal things...all I ever did was put it on top and push down and it would click in. If the metal square is not going down and clicking into place, possibly check to see if the up/down sides of the trackball square is on the left/right side...

yes im applying pressure to each corner, so you're saying with the trackball it only goes in one way? like isn't there prongs on two sides of the trackball? Like it works, but sometimes it gets stuck, or when im moving the trackball it lags on the bb.

the trackball, as in the picture, see how each parallel side is the same? well, when your gonna flip it, you can only do a 180 otherwise you'll have problems getting it to click (the metal square that is)...make sense?

I know u got to go to C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry and than APPLOADER.


But once I'm in the Blackberry Folder, I cant find the AppLoader Folder let alone any files containing the vendor.xml.file

So I called rogers just now and told them I'd like to cancel, the girl transfered me over to someone else and he cut me the same deal as my sister got for hers. Its the best and most stable OS to date...it has been released by some non-canadian providers as their OFFICIAL release version ;)...if its available for your berry, trust me, its a nice upgrade.

yes it is, as long as you are within your local area. if you are outside of that area - data roaming charges apply. but if you are asking if it is free to bbm someone who is in a different country, then yes it is free.

Reason why I ask is because I had the same situation, and when I called rogers they told me that since I dropped my bold it already voided my warranty. So I decided to customize my bold.

Well I didn't tell them exactly that I dropped it, they informed me that if there is any physical damage on the beizel, the warranty is done. So in the end you will be having two bolds?

I dropped my Bold so many times, I really ought to stop that. The default silver frame was so bad, I bought a black casing, black trackball and black nameplate to make it all black. Looks nice now, it doesn't show the scratches and nicks as much after I drop it a few more times(on pavement, carpet, etc.).


I'm tempted to upgrade to 5.0 but I'll wait it out for now, no rush....I hope :)

the opera browser was ok.. the mouse was SUPER laggy, and it doesn't have a video player, so it goes to the default BB browser for those.

I believe there is a plugin for that...Bolt's new browser is pretty good and responsive but if your 5.0 running one of the latest stable builds, you should be good and for other browsing using Opera Mini is good idea.

So I have been using Media sync to get my itunes playlists on my BB. All of sudden I open Media Sync and it is unable to find any of my playlists.... this is really frustrating ! I am so tempted to just leave this POS phone behind and pick up a 3GS or the new iphone coming out this summer.

Any advice on how to fix the problem?

FWIW, I did a test with windows media player and everything worked ... but i don't want to have to create new playlists all over again.

Maybe this is just paranoia but, As I was loading .610 onto my phone i small image with a computer and a red cross came on saying " loading software error 507.. it only appeared for 2 seconds, and than i just let it install. Process was done completing. Once I turned on my phone i have an icon in the menu that says " zoompass ". Was this attached to this build? and do I have anything to be concerned about?

If the upgrade went through ok, it shouldn't be an issue, but if you want to reassure yourself, reflash the OS again. Just make sure that you're deleting vendor.xml before you do it.

Zoompass, I believe, is a link to the app, built into the newer OSes - Its not actually installed. You can hide the icon if you want.

Really need to upgrade my Pearl 8110 soon so I can start using these new OS that are are coming out... I'm stuck with 4.5 or 4.6 I think.

^^^ Personally, I couldn't stand to use a Pearl, so I don't know how you did it. You can get 1st gen curves dirt cheap to get a full qwerty keyboard, though those most likely won't make the jump to OS 5, much less OS 6.

Seeing that you got it off a friend, I would wipe the whole device.

settings > security opitons> security wipe.

Not memory cleaning, security wipe. If you let the phone "lock", enter the wrong password 10 times, it'll also wipe the device.

Oh wait, You're not running OS 5.0.

in OS 5.0 it gives the security wipe as the last option in security options.

I believe for OS 4.6 to find security wipe it is:

Options> Security Options> General Settings click Menu and select Wipe Hand held

It's all standard across OS 4.6+, it's the word blackberry. I believe it comes up once on the 6th try, then once again on the 10th.



Btw, there is an app (the name eludes me right now) that produces screenshots of whatever you see on your BB. That might help you see other things in the future :)

My phone contract with rogers is coming due at the end of the month....I've been looking at getting the bb 9700 (not sure with which company) but was just wondering is there an advantage to getting it now or waiting till the phone comes with OS 6.0.......from what I've ready my contract will end but they will still keep charging me my normal rate until I phone to cancel it or upgrade...so as much as I would like a new phone....I can wait a couple months if it will make a huge difference.
I'm guessing when the bb9800 comes out it will be highly expensive?

If you downloaded it from the web, check your downloads folder. If the icon suddenly disappeared, you may be low on application memory.

I did a battery pull, the soft reset didnt even work, the screen didnt go blank.
What I noticed was the phone did not ALARM! I highly depend on the phone to wake me up in the mornings and Im scurred about this issue.
It also happened when I was sleeping, I usually BBM until I fall asleep so maybe I rolled over my phone or pressed something? lmao I dont know!
But how does the whole thing happen in the first place?

lol i had that happen with my old curve. all i did was do a restore of the backed up files and it was good as new.

Can't wait til it comes out, my contract with Rogers is coming to a close in November, I'm not sure what to do now, I'm gonna head to retentions and see if I can get a large discount on my current plan, plus a cheap smartphone, be it the iPhone 4(doubt it), Android(Droid 2? Evo 4G?) or a Blackberry, but right now I'm not really leaning towards the BB phones, nothing seems of interest compared to the others...

I don't bother with BT headsets anymore. Pain in the arse to wear. I got a BT visor-mounted speakerphone - soooo much better sound quality, and the battery lasts forever!
