A Chinese boy was left seriously ill after drinking gas to try and turn himself into a Transformer robot.

Xiao Fang of Xingwen in eastern China reportedly drank the gas in secret while he was eating food in the belief that it would give him powers of robotic superheroes, the Telegraph reports. It was unclear just how much gas the boy drank.

The 9-year-old suffered serious nerve damage from ingesting the petrol. His doctors said they were amazed that he was able to keep the toxic liquid down.

Xiao Fang’s parents said they became suspicious when their home began to smell like gas.

Woman Becomes Stuck In Toilet Seat After Sitting On It For Two Years

Wednesday March 12, 2008
By Roxana Hegeman The Associated Press

Authorities are considering charges in the bizarre case of a woman who sat on her boyfriend's toilet for two years - so long that her body was stuck to the seat by the time the boyfriend finally called police.

Ness City Kansas Sheriff Bryan Whipple said it appeared the 35-year-old Ness City woman's skin had grown around the seat. She initially refused emergency medical services but was finally convinced by responders and her boyfriend that she needed to be checked out at a hospital.

"We pried the toilet seat off with a pry bar and the seat went with her to the hospital," Whipple said. "The hospital removed it."

Whipple said investigators planned to present their report Wednesday to the county attorney, who will determine whether any charges should be filed against the woman's 36-year-old boyfriend.

"She was not glued. She was not tied. She was just physically stuck by her body," Whipple said. "It is hard to imagine. ... I still have a hard time imagining it myself."

He told investigators he brought his girlfriend food and water, and asked her every day to come out of the bathroom.

"And her reply would be, `Maybe tomorrow,'" Whipple said. "According to him, she did not want to leave the bathroom."

The boyfriend called police on Feb. 27 to report that "there was something wrong with his girlfriend," Whipple said, adding that he never explained why it took him two years to call.

Police found the clothed woman sitting on the toilet, her sweat pants down to her mid-thigh. She was "somewhat disoriented," and her legs looked like they had atrophied, Whipple said.

"She said that she didn't need any help, that she was OK and did not want to leave," he said.

She was reported in fair condition at a hospital in Wichita, about 150 miles southeast of Ness City. Whipple said she has refused to cooperate with medical providers or law enforcement investigators.

Authorities said they did not know if she was mentally or physically disabled.

Police have declined to release the couple's names, but the house where authorities say the incident happened is listed in public records as the residence of Kory McFarren. No one answered his home phone number.

The case has been the buzz of Ness City, said James Ellis, a neighbor.

"I don't think anybody can make any sense out of it," he said.

Ellis said he had known the woman since she was a child but that he had not seen her for at least six years.

He said she had a tough childhood after her mother died at a young age and apparently was usually kept inside the house as she grew up. At one time the woman worked for a long-term care facility, he said, but he did not know what kind of work she did there.

"It really doesn't surprise me," Ellis said. "What surprises me is somebody wasn't called in a bit earlier."

Officer Helps Desperate Mother
Source (http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/jul/28/tampa-officer-gets-mother-out-jam/news-breaking/)

TAMPA - A woman caught taking about $70 worth of items at a Sweetbay Supermarket last week said she did it for her children.

So instead of arresting her, a Tampa police officer paid for the diapers, formula and other baby care products the woman was accused of taking. He even threw in a couple of sandwiches.

"It was something that needed to be done," Cpl. Vince Sallimo said. "Those kids were without food. I just wanted to help."

The woman said her husband was being deported, and now suddenly caring for her children alone, she didn't have the means to afford the items.

When Sallimo and two other officers were called to the store at 4056 N. Armenia Ave. about 10 a.m. on July 21, the woman told them she had just been evicted and was living with friends.

It also appeared she took care of her daughters, who were about 1 and 3 years old, because their clothes were clean and their hair was well-groomed, Sallimo said.

Officers noticed the woman tried to take only baby products—no steaks, beer or other extravagant items—factors that Sallimo said made him want to help her.

Because of the woman's circumstances, Sweetbay did not to press charges, spokeswoman Nicole LeBeau said.

The woman, whose name was not available because she was not arrested and a report was not filed, was given a trespass warning.

LeBeau said she would like to work with the Tampa Police Department and other local agencies to collect donations for struggling families.

Because of the economy, officers have arrested in the past few months an increasing number of people accused of shoplifting baby products and other necessities, spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.

Sallimo said he hopes the woman's fortunes will turn.

"In my opinion, our chief would've done the same thing," Sallimo said about helping the family. "I think it's something we all would do."

Stray dogs master the subway (http://spikedhumor.com/articles/188282/Stray-Dogs-Master-the-Subway.html)

Scientists in Moscow say stray dogs have learned to use the subway to travel to the city center in search of food.

Biology professor Andrew Poyarkov said he had seen several dogs unaccompanied on the city's underground rail system, reports rupor.org.

He claims the dogs travel into the city center, where they can more easily find food, each morning and travel back to where they live each evening.

"They do not just go to the subway station, they actually board the trains," he said.

"They seem to have learned how long they need to stay on the train to leave at the right station.

"Sometimes they fall asleep and miss their stop. Then they get off take another train back to the center."

Dr Poyarkov said he had also noted the same dogs waiting for a green light to cross the road.

He says they have somehow managed to pick up habits from humans and is investigating the phenomenon.

Not surprising for a state that boasts the third, sixth and
seventh fattest cities in America, this story comes from
Texas, where according to the natives, everything is bigger.

Houston police say a man weighing nearly 600 pounds concealed
a 9mm handgun in his layers of fat for more than a day while
in custody.

George Vera, 25, was arrested and held in the city jail for
a day before being taken to the Harris County Jail. There,
he revealed to police he was hiding the handgun and two clips.

The report did not say why Vera was arrested.

Police representative Gary Blankinship said Vera’s weight
made it easier for him to hide the gun from officers. “We
teach officers to lift up and look under,” Blankinship said,
eliciting several gags and retches. “The officer may not
have arrested anyone this big before.”

“Basically short of strip-searching or searching cavities,
they could miss something like this.” or a remote control,
a cell phone, a stash of candy bars, a hub cap…

The Houston Police Department and Harris County Sheriff’s
Office said they have begun internal investigations into the
incident.
