hey i have a cold air intake on my 2.0l and i know that it makes a difference with sound becuase it sounds alot more deeper...and there is a slight difference with pick up but not much i think the noise tricks you... but my question is how is everyones gas economy cause mine is shit. if i feather the gas and dont even rev it past 3g my gas hand still moves quite a bit and i only drove 10k? with my stock air box its alot better. but last night i drove alot and i was actually getting on it .... and my gas hand didnt move at all? and i drove like 3 times more( city driving) i dont get it .

Intakes are alot of peoples 1st mod and it sure is a great upgrade for performance and sound. Make sure you get a nice cat back exhaust as well to make it the best flowing :)

My mileage has never changed when I installed my intake. It might have gone down right when I put it on because I was on the gas more so I could hear it, but that was my own fault. If you do a lot of city driving your mileage will be crap.

This is a prime example of the thread about sponsors whoring threads (http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=35789) earlier today... but WORSE, as you didn't even read any of the posts... he's asking about gas mileage, not where to pick up the product... I guess this is what becomes so irritating after a while... :whoa (by the way it's "A LOT"... not "alot"... come on people this is elementary school grammar GODDDDD!!!! :chuckle)
ANYWAY, to actually answer your question, there are quite a few threads regarding this topic. Try searching "CAI" and "mileage" and a bunch should pop up. Here's a start:

I installed K&N typhoon and my average gas mileage dropped from 10.1 to 9.5, but now(two weeks after install) it came down to 9.8. and it is mainly city driving and I push my car really hard: redlining, speeding, hard breaking etc. But I managed to get 600 kms on a tank with 5 litres still remaining.

I find that my CAI does save me a bit of gas on the highway, but not in the city. Then again, there's a lot of factors with gas consumption, so I wouldn't put it all on the CAI... I more or less like it for the sound ahaha...

You get 600 km on a tank doing city driving?
You got to tell me how you do that ...........lol
My car is stock and i only get around 500 to 530 and thats not pushing it just normal driving .
You are very lucky to get that kind of kilometers with your kind of driving...............

+100000000 lol. I have barely hit 600km on an 90% highway trip babying the gas. If I hammer it all of the time I would be luck to get 500km.

+1 I'm lucky to get 510kms on a tank with a CBE... the more mods that make sound (engine/performance) the less mileage... reason being its louder at higher revs hahaha :bana ... try driving your car like you did prior to the intake and you'll get the same mileage (I'd assume anyways)
