Look around at other cars, pedestrians, etc. Even if you're not actually looking at shit, make it seem like you are. That is a big key to the test.
They can dock you for not observing when making a turn, changing lanes, crossing intersections, sitting at an intersection.. anything. All I got docked on in my G2 test was not being observant enough at a controlled intersection.

- Make your mirror and blind spot checks very very obvious
- Don't go too slow, don't accelerate too suddenly
- When in doubt, signal
- Have a friendly demeanour; testers come across loads of self-righteous jerks
throughout the day, a little smile goes a long way

Agree with everything Silent J says here. Especially about making it obvious that you're observing your surroundings.
Good luck!

LOL in my case, I failed my G2 cuz I was speeding hahaha so make sure you pay really close attention to the road signs !!
Also, check your mirrors (side and rear-view) at regular intervals. Don't just use your eyes to check it. Turn your head if you can and if it's safe. Look both ways when passing an intersection too. I took my G-license exam at Morningside though but I dont think there'll be a lot of cars in Aurora.. don't really know how busy it is there. Two car lengths away from another car, don't forget !
Oh and btw, don't forget to check if your examiner has his/her seatbelt on. One of my friends failed their G license because they pulled out of the parking lot and the examiner didn't have his seatbelt on. Failed him on the spot.

you also have to know the maximum speed limit even if there are no road signs indicating speed which, i believe, is 50km/h on a non-highway and 80km/h on a highway

what's funny is that those over the age of 16 are not the driver's responsibility.
taken from here (http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/safety/seatbelt.shtml)
Passengers who are 16 years of age and older are responsible for buckling themselves up. If stopped by a police officer, passengers aged 16 and older must provide their name, address and date of birth to the officer. They can face a fine of $90 for not using or wearing their seat belt properly.
if i were your friend, i would've appealed that decision since there is no law against the examiner's entrapment technique, assuming the examiner is above 16 years old...unless it was a specific pass/fail criteria

Wow.. that's harsh.
Great tips. So I know a lot of people do this...
When you make a right turn... you just go straight into the lane in the middle (for 3 lane streets.. or passing lane in 2 lane streets)
that would be something.. they can fail or dock points off right?

It's probably the testers discretion but you could be failed for it (you can be failed for almost anything that could cause an accident)

I'm not sure... this was a long time ago. I guess the examiner tricked him... what a sneaky bunch ! I guess the test started as soon as they pulled out of the numbered parking spot. Bad luck is all, but at the same time, seatbelts are important and having them on when driving (whether as a driver/passenger) is really really enforced. But my friend said the guy waited til they got out of the parking lot and as soon as they reached a regular road, the examiner told him he failed to check if his passenger had his seatbelt on and told him to turn the car around back to the lot. So he failed on the spot... I'm thinking this test didnt last any more than 2-3 minutes max.
When I failed my first G2 exam, it was already like 10/15 minutes and when I got back, I was told I would have passed but I was speeding for 30 seconds LOL 90 on a 60... I didn't even notice I was going so fast LOL foot made of lead !

OH WOW !!! REALLY ??? He didn't appeal it because he thought yeah as a driver, the onus is on him... oh well, that's shitty for him hahahaha... I'm sure he got over it !

Make sure you move your head and look at the blind spots when turning left or right. The examiners are anal about that, even thou you might have just looked at that direction, that's not enough.

Check your turn signal lights, make sure all bulbs are working.
Just be confident, dont show that your struggling or else they'll ask you to do more stuff.

I took my G test couple years back at Aurora too. Do you kind of know the area? I remember there are stretches where it's 80km/h and then goes down to 60 then 50.
Just becareful before going on the highway cause I was kind of speeding before I got on, examiner just warned me afterwards but I passed in one shot.

Way back when I took my drivers license test (when Dinosaurs roamed the earth), being able to parallel park was a must.
The examiner is looking to see that you have control of the car, have some situational awareness, and have a bit of confidence.
Control the car smoothly. Don't jump on the brakes or gas. Shoulder check on lane changes. Turn signals. For god's sake, don't speed. Don't be tentative. Don't tailgate.
Good luck.

Basically.. in summary
*Correct me if im wrong.. some of them is what i learned from driving school to get my G2.
1) left turn -> lane change (because first lane is for passing)
2) No speed sign -> 50km/h in street, 80km/h on highway
3) signal every turns. forward AND backward
4) when it's yellow light and you want to make a right turn. YOU must make a complete STOP first. (same when the light is red)
5) when light is green, and no one is crossing, if you make a stop to make a right turn. You FAIL. Because that's a violation of the green light. Slow down but don't stop. (what my instructor told me)
6) shoulder checks for every lane change
7) do not speed.
sounds about right... right? :)

Yeeeep. And they just REALLY want you to exaggerate the fact that are looking all around, in every mirror, and in your blind spots all the time. And make sure you always look over your right shoulder before making a right turn (in case of bicyclists). Hit one of them and you're DONE!!!! lol

After the test is done and you have to back the car into the parking lot, make sure you check the surroundings and make it obvious. One of my friends got failed for that. Good luck on your test.

(I got my G2 Equivalent in Alberta, then switched to the actual G2 in Ontario, doing my G in Ontario too)

Nope.
First you have to mail them a cheque for $200 (gets you a spot for the test drive)
Then you have to write a 6 page essay as to why you feel you qualify to drive in Ontario.
Then you have to show up in a monkey suit, get down on your knees, and beg them to let you have a spot. Then you have to dance for them. But not just any dance, a sexy dance. (a pole will be provided)
If you're good, they'll let ya have a spot noooo problem! :) (now as for getting them to pass you, that's a whole new process...)
Don't they do this in Alberta too??
PS Congrats Krazy!!!

I had the worst experience, I did everything right until I got to a light and he asked me to make a left, so i'm waiting in the middle of the intersection waiting for cars to pass. Finally I had time, but this 10 year old kid was on the corner making his mind up to cross or not, taking one foot into the street then back....did this back and forth almost teasing me. So obviously I couldn't go in case he bolted out. Finally the instructer looked at me like WTF go already, so I finally make my turn just as the kid bolts in front of the car......so obviously I had to stop, and one car going straight had to brake cause I was in the middle of the intersection waiting for dennis the menace to cross the freakin road......when I finish my turn I swear the kid stopped and gave me a "chucky" smile as I drove off. I look over to the instructer with this "I f'in failed didn't I" look and he gently knodded with a "you most certainly f'in did".......the worst feeling in the world at 15 is when your mom/dad gets into the car with this big anticipation of happiness and instead they regret ever paying for young drivers.
Anyhooooooooo.......ON TOPIC: What most people do on the highway test is drive up the onramp too slow (being nervous).....so by the time they get to merging they're going only like 80 km/hr.....FAIL

Unless the car you're testing in is manual, yes.
Not an automatic fail, but you'll deduct some points from your score. Automatic fails are anything like breaking the law and or jeopardizing the test in such a way that it could result in a collision.

This happened to me when I took my G test in 2002.
I had a G1 license for 6 months and I even drove my car all by myself, also at the 400 series highway. When I took the 1st test for G2, I failed it. Rebooked for another test thru automated booking this time for G and I passed it. When my license is being processed, and me waiting to be called, one of the licensing employe raised a question to his supervisor mentioning, "Can we issue a G license even if the applicant did not went through G2 exam ?", the supervison replied, "Did he passed the G exam ?", the employee replied, "Yes he did, no mistakes.....", the supervisor instructed the employee, "Well, if he passed it with flying colors....issue him the G license...." Whohooo, I bypassed 1 step.
On thing that is ironic to this exam shit was, the examiner who gave me a passing mark for my G test was the same person who failed me during my G2 test. Prior to receiving my Canadian license, I had almost 15 years driving experience from my own country, but the driving habits were a bit different, thats why I failed the G2 test.

I guess it was when on-line booking first came out... and was flawed.
