Ok, so does anybody know exactly what constitutes an expired license plate ? Are we talking like one day after your birthday you are at risk of being ticketed ?

Legally, yes. Your license tags expire on your birthday and must be renewed and replaced on or before that date.
Just get it renewed...learn from my mistake...you will end up spending more if you get ticketed =P

I think Krazy is assuming you guys mean the actual plate expires so you have to get new plates every year.....
Only the sticker expires dude.....and tech its on your b-day so if your b-day is Aug 9th your sticker will just say Aug....so really you can risk driving all of Aug without a cop pulling you over. Cop would have to be pretty bored to pull you over unless it was like the 29th or 30th of the month your sticker is set to expire....

I think that's implied.....but IMO Krazy is thinking peoples plates (and therefore numbers) change every birthday....which would seem kind of shocking....

When you go to MTO don't put the sticker when you leave...just throw it in your glove box:)

They can still give you a ticket for not having it displayed. Trust me, I learned this the hard way many years ago. The law is that the sticker must be displayed in an unobstructed manner and in clear view.

And supposed to be in the top right hand corner of the plate for passenger vehicles and not on all 4 like I've seen done.
I've even seen the sticker on top of a plate protector peeling off.:loco

Also, if you have any unpaid 407 charges, they will make you pay that along with the 74$ for the sticker.

I was rolling around for just over a week with expired tags just a few weeks back. It can make for some pananoid driving.
I remember driving for a month and a half with expired tags one year. It was a company vehicle though, and the fleet manager screwed up with the renewal, so I wasn't concerned about getting a ticket, because the company would have paid it.

Well, if you do get a ticket, there's always magical "Option 2" which gives you the opportunity to request (before a judge) the set fine be reduced. They will bring it down by 50% on most occasions if you say it is too difficult for you too afford.

Or you could just display the sticker.
