I just heard that Petro Canada took over Sunoco, and they'll be rebranding the stations to Petro ... how many of you use Sunoco's 94Oct?
They supposedly haven't made up their mind about carrying 94Oct, but that would be stupid if they dropped it! Most of the Forced Induction guys\gals I know use it.
What would you guys do if they dropped it tho?

Another thing that concerns me is that now there's less and less competition (not saying that the BIG companies were playing fair before) and this can't be good for the price of gas :whoa
Oh well, atleast the Mazda3 is somewhat fuel efficient. :)

it seems that they will be rebranding ALL Ontario Sunoco's to Petro-Canada...in the case where they're across the street from each other, one will close.
This sucks cuz I use both...and if they stop offering 94, I may have to go the octane booster route which will be quite annoying.

What, what, what?????!!!!
I guess I'd run the 91 octane then, but I hope they don't start using the 91 Petro gas and leave it as the 91 octane Sunoco. Personally, I think they'll keep the 94 octane around.

Nooooooo!
this is not good, im going to buy tons of jugs tonight and filling them up with 94.
Then again, Sunoco had a exclusive deal for 94octane so if they drop it I am sure someone else will pick it up.
I guess Shell v-power it will be then....only reason I go to sunoco is for 94...

Suncor Energy Inc (former subsidiary of Sunoco Inc in the USA) bought over Petro-Canada and the merger completed August 1, 2009. The new almagamated company is still called Suncor Energy Inc.
After Sunoco Inc in the USA divested interest in Suncor in 1995, Suncor maintained the Sunoco name in Canada, but mainly in Ontario.
By taking over Petro-Canada, Suncor now has a national presence. It looks like 94 octane will be more widely available, for now, as according to Petro-Canada's site, they are now selling 94 octane as "Super Premium" in selected areas (http://retail.petro-canada.ca/en/formycar/139.aspx)

I hope what you're saying is true, as the link only said that the Super Premium 94 is only available in Montreal?

I doubt they'd rebrand existing stations... The cost of the conversion, infrastructure changes, advertising/PR... That, and like BestBuy/FutureShop, they probably want to maintain two corporate identities to either give the impression of competition or have offerings to different demographics.
I may be on crack, but I could have sworn that during my childhood, I've seen gas stations offering 108 octane...

Chk this:
http://www.calgaryherald.com/business/energy-resources/Sunoco+Suncor+Petro+merger/1422910/story.html
CALGARY — Sunoco gas stations will disappear in Ontario — at least in name — should the proposed merger of Suncor Energy Inc. and Petro-Canada go through.
The Sunoco stations, owned by Suncor, will be rebranded to bear the patriotic Petro-Canada logo, and some of the Sunoco stations will likely be sold as the merged company works to satisfy competition concerns.
"The Sunoco brand will not be present," predicted Rick George, Suncor's current chief executive and the man tapped to lead the merged company. The shift will not be immediate, and will be subject to discussions with the Competition Bureau, he noted.
"There will be a divestment. We are going keep the Petro-Canada brand," he said in an editorial board meeting with the National Post.
"We will not necessarily be able to keep all of the market share of both companies in individual neighbourhoods. If we have a station right across the street from one another, that doesn't seem logical that the rebrand would have two Petro-Canada stations on two corners. So you're going to have to go through that process."

Pierre from ShinzoWerks stated on GolfMKV that, based on some testing by his sponsors, sunoco 94 is closer to 98 octane. (http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1825528&postcount=23)

lol...it's like they're adding dope to the crack to make it even more addictive...
FWIW, even most MS3's in here can't use 94 octane let alone 98. However, having chatted with MajesticBlueNTO about this, we agreed that cars that are tuned to run 93/94 and higher will benefit from the higher octane and achieve acceptable mileage as well.

on the GTI, there is little to no difference in fuel economy between the 91 octane (using Shell 91) and 93 octane (using Sunoco 94) tunes :)
the only hits are the increased torque :hawt and the lighter wallet :blush

On a related note, did anyone notice that when the PST & GST are harmonized next year, we're going to have an additonal 8% tax on gasoline? Currently PST is not charged on gas in Ontario. I realized that fuels for home heating etc were going to be taxed more, but hadn't realized that gasoline was going up as well :(

Yah, I noticed and it really pisses me off. The government should cut back the gas tax by an associated amount to curtail it, but we all know that isn't going to happen.
As a wise Newfie (oxymoron if there ever was one), named Bubba1983 once told me, the government can go "SUCK MY HAT!". :chuckle

Welcome to Quebec :chuckle
When I lived in Gatineau I used to always tank up in Ontario because it would be close to 10 cents difference cause of the tax.

What?!! And I was just about to move to Ontario to take advantage of the lower gas rates. Guess I'll be staying in Montreal! :chuckle
Seriously though...paying gas at over 1$/litre really sucks...no matter where you live.
