The older systems have a price drop at FS too. You pick up the 80 gig one for $299 as well but I have a Wii, Xbox, PS2 and now PS3 so I need the room for a smaller unit.

I've been looking at getting the PS3 slim...but I'm wondering if the first couple of batches may have some production issue?

Would it be wiser to wait a couple of months before getting the slim (give Sony time to work out some bugs maybe?).

I was thinking of getting the fat 160Gb version for 399$ with Drake's Fortune included...or perhaps getting the fat 80Gb version for 299$ and upgrading the drive if I needed the space. Anyway, not sure what I will do...but I definitely want to get my hands on a PS3 soon!

I also heard rumours that there will be a 250Gb Slim version coming out in the next few months but no idea about the price (probably $399?)

Still prefer my 25lb PS3 with 80GB and PS2 backward compatability. Treated me well so far and love it as a Blu Ray player.

Never could get into little big planet and all the censorship issues when people created their own levels! WTF!??

for all of you who are contemplating getting the drakes bundle... i would personally go for the smaller drive. When drakes fortune 2 comes out in October, i'm sure they'll have a special edition with both included for a decent price. As mentioned, hard drives are cheap and it's simple to replace when you're close to running out of space. PS3 has a backup utility as well, so it can transfer all your content onto an external drive, then copy it back to the new drive once installed... Pretty painless.

Slim PS2 never over heated for me, my buddies and I had a huge NHL tourny back in x'mas time.

It barely got hot and it was continously on too, don't know about PS3 though.

Thats actually what I think of doing. My 40gb or 60gb PS3 is full and sometimes it would ask to delete some stuff and some demos or previews with Hi Def are nice to have or brag about lol..
But its good to know that you can upgrade.

yup hopin to pick up the ps3 slim when I get back from the Dominican . My old ps3 the blueray laser went on it so why not get a new one. :). Is there any other benefit to the slim than the size, heard everything is pretty much the same just uses less power and is a lot more quiet.

The touch buttons have been replaced with actual physical buttons and it has some compatibility feature with Sony Bravia TV's

EDIT: In regards to BRAVIA, its a BRAVIA Sync feature, which allows you to control the PS3's XMB menu with a Sony BRAVIA TV remote when using an HDMI connection. Also allows the PS3 to shut off when the TV is shut off. Interesting feature if you have a BRAVIA TV I guess.

All these games can be bout used now (unless it's a PSN game), so look around... Always recommend renting first. Unlike you, I don't collect consoles, I just have a bad habit in buying games and never playing them :( hence the reason why I can't remember 3/4 of the shit I have.

the first gen ps2 slim had mad overheating issues, i rbm a time when ppl would bring their ps2 slims to pmall to get another fan installed..
the ps3 gets mad hot and also has some overheating issues, so i wouldnt be surprised if the ps3 slim has the same problems... if i were to buy a slim i'll prolly wait a couple of months to see if any problems arises b4 forking over 300 bucks

I've always been an xbox guy but when the PS3 was declared the victor in the high def player war, I knew I had to get it. Paid over about $500 for the system then had to get the blu ray controller, extra gamepad, few couple of games and a few blue rays. And it was totally worth it.

At $299, no one with a hi def tv should even hesitate to consider getting a PS3. As a stand alone blu ray, it is one of the best.

I got mine last Sunday, actually the wife gave it to me as an "in advance b-day gift" I purchase the blue ray remote control, Resident Evil 5 and a Monster Cable HDMI and what a diference on my HDTV, last night I watched a movie I downloaded as DivX and the TV displayed it in 1080p which to me is great and the sound too. I'm not into games so much but as a media center is great, I also download a new theme, when I get home I'll post the name of it.

^^ I agree about the cables, I've always think they are all the same and I've read a lot about that but the cable was on sale for $24.99 so even if I went with a generic one there wouldn't be much difference in price. It was an online offer only at futureshop.

Edit: I bought the older 80GB one. I like the look of it better that the slim and if I want a bigger HDD I can always upgrade it.
