View Full Version : MS CAI for Cobb SRI?

I know this has been covered before. I just spent about 1/2 hour reading through a ton of posts but they all seem to be from quite a while ago.
My question: I was thinking of selling my MS CAI / AEM Air Straightener and getting a Cobb SRI. Is this worth my while? Is there any benifit to doing this?
From what I have read the CAI has better gains. As far as sucking up water with a CAI; this seems to be mostly a non-issue from what I read.
Currently I switch mine to the "short mode" when I switch to my winter tires to avoid getting the low lying filter overly dirty during the winter months. Having the SRI would eliminate this task for me as well.
Anyone out there have experience going from one to the other?
Your thoughts please...

This thread might help.

I went with the Cobb SRI due to:
- Easy installation. For a car dummy like myself, I did the installation of it within 20-30 mins.
- Marginal performance difference vs CAI
- Zero concern from sucking up water
- Easy maintenance
- Good price
I am no expert in this, but that's what made me to go to SRI instead of CAI. :)

You pretty much answered the OPs questions.

Thanks for the input guys.
I just don't want to make the switch to a SRI and feel a loss of power in the butt dyno. I honestly feel a difference when I switch mine over after the winter from short to CAI.
And yes I know that the MS CAI wasn't designed to be used in the short form but it suits my needs for 5 months a year.
Since you already have a CAI, price is not a concern, neither is installation. The only difference it is now, is the maintenance work involved (normal cleaning and winter switching). Do you mind doing it? If not, I don't see a point of switching if hydro locking is not an issue.

If you decide to sell you MS CAI, give me a shout. I'll buy it off of you.

I have had both and liked the sri more. its 99% if not 100% of the power, less expensive, easier to clean, better sounding and 0% chance of hydro lock.
that being said, if you get a crazy deal on an ms cai it can make it worth it... al happens to have an excellent deal on his cai
I think I might go with the Cobb also. Seems much easier to install, and might be getting a deal too.
