I knew he was gonna pull me over when he pulled off and then pulled in behind me... argggg!!!

Im gonna fight it.... worst case I gotta pay it anyways... FML!!!!

What a way to start off my day!!! lol

How close were you to his car (approximately) and how much was your ticket ? If it were a car length away, I'd have argued it. Damn cops.

That's one thing I hate during rush hour -- when people follow too close... it's effing rush hour !! In that sense, I always try to drive a car length away during rush hour at all times. Because you never know what lies ahead... just to be on the safe side.

WHY DIDN"T YOU SHOW ENOUGH BOOB to get out of it!???

Good luck with fighting it, it's always a tough one to predict on how it will go. Research on google, there are a few good sites with people who have fought that same ticket if you want to make a defense. I wouldn't care about paying the ticket, just get those points wiped out!!!!!!!!!

I thought about hitting on him... but I didnt think it would work... he seemed like a dick... some young black guy with a stick up his ass... If I thought it would work I woulda done it for sure... Im not afraid to you what I got to my advantage lol :P

:whoa

That's pretty harsh. And it doesn't sound like a power trip at all.

You were probably following too closely... even in your pic it looks like you're still following too close. It's a highway, not a residential street. Regardless, it's an offense to follow too closely anywhere. If he really wanted to be a dick he would have slammed on his brakes causing you some major damage.

Lesson learned. (or apparently not according to your pic)

Eff that... its bumper to bumper traffic... I left one car length... thats plenty. Its cut throat on the westbound 401 in the morning... I do what I gotta do to get to work... I am not leaving a crap load of space in between me and the guy ahead of me cus then every asshat cuts you off... and really... I dont enjoy being cut off in the morning... or ever for that matter.

Yet another case of the cops deciding for themselves what they can chose to charge or not:

Headway of motor vehicles, generally

158. (1) The driver of a motor vehicle or street car shall not follow another vehicle or street car more closely than is reasonable and prudent having due regard for the speed of the vehicle and the traffic on and the conditions of the highway. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 158 (1).

Fight it.

What evidence does he have that will withstand in court? None!

State you were a safe distance, morning rush hour on canada's busiest highway.

I don't know. I'm pretty sure cops are just as lazy as everyone else. It'd have been easier for him not to pull you over, or not write a ticket. It seems likely you pulled some attitude, either before or after he pulled you over. Maybe you were put out because you were already running late. Not his fault, you could have left your house earlier...

You should try to fight it. You got much to win, nothing to lose. He probably won't show, unless he's in court for some other bigger charge for someone else.

And if she were apologetic and still got a ticket, the cop probably would have preferred she not say anything... :)

You never know with cops. The best thing you can do is not say anything and fight the ticket later. Okay, that's the second best thing you can do. The best thing you can do is throw it into reverse and drive into their car and claim they ran into you :chuckle

You were in rush hour traffic. Are you driving dangerously close at that speed, sure doesn't seem that way. But where is this guy when you see people tailgatting at 140km/h??? See it all the time but this gets a damn ticket.

One no such thing as quota anymore back in the 70 yes they had a quota for performance apraisals that is it. If we had a quota then anyone going 120 on 400 or 401 or 402. we would meet that quota in the first 3 hours. there was a blitze last month with summer travel about getting those people who follow to close. yes we have blitzes were we will concentrate on certain things. Usually just before school its speeding in school zones. drinking and driving during holidays. although i dont live in toronto i do drive through there more then i would like. As for snapping a plated picture yes there is no real fine you would get it off there becuase now you can get a tickit for driving with an handheld device (unsafe driving) and second you are to close. (i wont tell on you.) Also if you are thinking of fighting. i am not sure if the opp that pulled you over has dash cams or not. more then likely he does and they keep the tape for usually 1 month. Also not sure if you know this but police get a day off to attened court were all there tickets that are going to be faught. if they show or not will be a crap shoot. (that why ticket guys ask who the officer is)

They actually get paid to show up in court. It's part of their job. So unless this cop has something more important to do he will be there. I'd hire a ticket guy and take it to court. If the ticket fighter is good they'll make a deal with the crown prior to the hearing and work something out. Good luck!!

I thought the police department inform all officers know what the 'average' number of tickets is? In a sense, doesn't this serve as an unofficial quota. My source is a Toronto cop, not sure if OPP has the same system.

coursol
09-04-2009, 12:12 AM
first off opp they dont do the ticket thing. Opp officers dont stay at just one office get bounced around the region were you are station. allows for rural area to have police. yes the 'cell phone ban" is being inforced more more now that as police officers now have the wording proper. Used to have to charge people under the dangerouse driving bit. the problem with the law for police is that they leave so many of them so open for interpritation that police have to use there judgement. ie tint window. they should give us a number like 35% but noooooo. Its up to us to decide. If you want to complain complain at the law makers. tell them to give police numbers so they dont have the power we do.
last thing foxy. if he was young 28 or so then he probably full of piss and vinigar trying to prove something. second when he was following you to pull you over it probably was not by chance. he was probably running you plates and was waiting to get a hit on something. as we are running you plates if you start to behave yourself like back off the person in front of you or slow down we dont usually pull you over. we have better things to do then give tickets. when you see us sitting on the side road we are not always looking for speeders. we go there just to slow things down for a bit and do alot of paper work. follow up on calls. that is why when some one breaks into your car you get calls now instead of police always showing up.

fighting crime doesn't pay, especially for pay raises and the police helicopter that they want. there were articles in the papers a while ago that some officer let it slip that there are "perks" to writing tickets.

as for the dash cam, kind of hard to capture foxy29 following him too closely when the cam is pointed forward and she is behind him, don't you think?

when it comes to fighting the ticket, you could probably get the same deal as if you hired someone but it comes down to which is better/less costly for you; taking a day off work or paying someone to go to court for you.

lucky for me i'm going against the rush hour traffic for work.

Cell phone ban is not in effect as of yet, I think it's next month.:)

But I have to agree she is following way too close in the picture....That also doesn't look much like rush hour!, geez there's hardly any cars!!

The mistake you made Foxy was following the OPP cruiser in particular, too close!! Always give them more space, if someone cuts in between you and the cop all the better lol....maybe they'll get the ticket. :)

Might as well fight it though, atleast try to get the points off, they'll kill your insurance.

See thats one (of the many) thing that bothers me about police officers and the government.

Law Enforcement. To serve and protect.

The police officers should be complaining to their employer (government) that these written laws are making it difficult to do the job properly and for the employer to CLARIFY whats between those lines, and to give out the proper tools to do the job, should they be required.

The ability for police officers to "interpret" the laws at their own discretion clearly varies between the individual. You said it yourself, that you dont know exactly what the laws mean/saying.

Now instead of enforcing a law, they are allowed to make one up so to say (Example, the window tint %, and the "stunting/street racing laws").

The sticker on the police car fenders from now on, should be "To serve and collect".

It always gets jammed up at Kennedy, then clears up. I guess its because of the Express to Collectors (right after Brimley, before the Kennedy exit) and the Collectors to Express (right after Kennedy), that gets everybody in a knot.

Same with Eastbound 401, just before Markham Rd, when the Express to Collectors and everybody and their uncle who was in the express needs to exit at Markham Rd.

Don't just blame the hi-way design, it's the morons who wait to the last minute & exchange to get off at thier exit from the express or the morons who get on the hi-way and feel they need to get over to the express immediately that cause all the problems....If people used common sense, planned ahead properly and drove properly there would be much less conjestion!!.....It almost seems to me that the driver training people get today covers very little when it comes to proper hi-way etiquette......or their just STUPID! :headbang

FoXy29:

Some friendly advice for you.

1. How was the distance measured from behind his police car???? Side mirrors are convex so objects will appear closer. Did he use those to gauge the distance?????

2. The rear view mirror may also distort distance especially when the screen behind him is in the way, catch my drift.

It's much easier to watch another vehicle following to close with another vehicle.

PS. I'm more than happy to let the cat out of the bag.....Ive been a police officer for over 10 yrs. 8 of those have been specialized squads, so I rarely do traffic stuff unless the person is a real idiot!
