seems im getting lots of rock chips, even on the side doors, like the paint is just falling off, with white under the paint so its very noticeable on my graphite mica.

Bit off topic...

Also has anyone else noticed perfectly straight lines, almost resembling a soccer ball pattern on their dash above the glove department.

As well, the silver trim around the temp guages and the shifter scratches EXTREMELY easy, tons of tiny fine scratches everywhere, I'm very careful when I clean and i don't wear rings or anything so i don't understand how its scratching.

Yeah it's not the end of the world, just noticed things when i got up close and personal with my car today when cleaning, and those lines on the dash have been there since i purchased the car.

do you have the issue when the window is open and u close the door it makes an awful sound, and what about when your on highway do you get any whistling, or wind? I can hear wind at my windows and windshield....quite annoying when your trying to have a conversation with someone in your car.

i cant say i hear the wind, maybe i'm not paying enough attention lol..

I havent noticed the window issue either, maybe its specific to the 2010?

I do however has a weird noise when i roll up my frint windows, i can hear the motor kind of going click click click, you really gotta listen to it..

but like most people on here say, the car is feature packed for its class, so i guess you gotta give up something right?

I find my windshield to be pretty cheap as well lol. Not sure what the situation is with the new 2010's

You could clear bra the car if you want, it;s a worthy investment, but it wont protect the other parts of the car :)

Yeah I can't afford to clear bra it at the moment $300 or something right?, and you're right the car is a good bang for the buck, im fairly pleased with it.

I agree...we bought the Mazda 3 over the Honda Civic b/c I was pissed that Honda was so cheap on the models that I would of had to purchase the sport model just to get something as basic as 60/40 fold down seats.

Our 2008 GS is awesome, no complaints...

BUT THE PAINT IS HORRIFIC. We wax the thing almost every month we're so scared of rock chips!

I did a crap load of touch ups on my car last weekend, both front and sides. :complain
I believe that soccer ball pattern on the dash is the air bag?
Regarding the silver trim, I couldn't agree more. My driver side door handle is scratched. :bang

I've only have my 2010 MZ3 for a short time and I have a bunch of stone chips on my hood. I do live out in the country and but I never had this much rock chips/dents on my old Acura. I think the best way to deal with it is to touch up what you can and wax it like crazy.

cheap paint on all mazdas not just the 2010. Maybe 2 coats of base coat then the clear coat. Terrible! LOL

I would have to say that any "pattern" on the dashboard right above the glove box is most likely the outline of the airbag.

The only thing is that the pattern on my dash is just a basic rectangle, not a soccer ball pattern. This may be due to the fact that the 2010 airbag is slightly different from the previous generation models.

And oh yeah, the paint on these cars does chip and scratch very easily.

wait a few months for the paint to really cure.... I took a road trip in my 3 month old protege when I got it years ago... paint chips all over the hood and bumper... but last month I took a road trip in it again... no noticeable increase in paint chips... so it must be true!

I don't care anyway, the car is going to get repainted one of these days....

True but when you decide to re-pain your car...the paint job will be worth more then the car...

Too bad they don't have upgraded paint on the options list. I would definitely pay extra for thicker, tougher paint....and the thicker paint would probably help with the rust issues as well.

It's not the paint. It's Mazda's all in one paint process. It will be an industry standard soon. Far less emissions involved.

Paint, paint process....I mean it's a fairly irrelevant distinction. The chemical makeup of the paint and/or the way the metal is prepped prior to painting and/or the manner in which the base coat, colour coat, and/or clear coat is applied is the problem. I mean who really cares what the actual problem is, the end result is that they should give you the option the purchase the vehicle with a more durable and longer lasting paint job (maybe a special "Canadian Winters" special edition of the vehicle :chuckle ).

In my experience so far, I've noticed that Mazda's paint has a low level of base colour and clear. The paint is definitely there, as is the nice colours that Mazda paints the cars in.

You will notice that when you get a chip that goes down to the metal, the distance from the top of the surface to where you see metal is VERY small, in comparison to older, or different brands of cars.

I'm not putting words in Mazda's mouth, but it seems that Mazda may have tried to counteract this by using a harder clearcoat. Unfortunately it only does so much.

Almost every car manufacturer is doing this from what I've seen so far. I've noticed the same thing I described above with my Mom's 2006 Odyssey, in comparison to the 2000 Civic I drive.

If I was in any position at Mazda to have an input on materials, I would advise to look into metal that is more resistant to corrosion. This will definitely help with their resale value.

I have stone chips all over the hood...even on the side fenders and the roof of the car...The paint chips off very easily and so I keep and eye on this things on regular basis and use touch up paint (I know that sucks too! but better than rust) to fill up the paint chips.

As for the door windows, I have a 2006 and have had issues with the window regulator on the passenger side which got replaced under warranty and on the driver side got some screws tightened so that it does not make any clunking noises. However, both my front doors make noises when the windows are partially open and I close the doors. Sometimes I feel that the door or the glass will come off!! But I like my car in general and have gotten used to these things over 3 years. No complaints.
