Service Name: Rim straightening
Place of Purchase: 2300 finch ave w. unit: 66
Price: 100

Rating out of 5: 5/5
Pros:
- 1 day turn around time to straighten wheel

Cons:
- none really

SUMMARY:
so my lease is over in literally 2 days for ym mx5 and on the return list was 1 bent wheel. i looked and contacted many other rim repair places but turn around time was more than 1 week!

when i contacted rim techniques (recommened by allen@simplytire) i went there. so it took literally 1 day and he was done, if i wanted to refinish the wheel too, it would have probably been 1 day as well. fast and GREAT work.

now i know there are some negative reviews about them over on the bmw side of the car world, however that might have to do with those rims being made of different material or seomthing, i dunno. their shop is also in a plaza which literally takes up the entire weston/finch plaza corner, so it was a little difficult to find it since there were so many other shops.

my experience was good, and i wanna just let you all know nigel at rim techniques is great!

on a side note: when he straightened the wheel for me he also gave it back to me completely cleaned and i assume the straightening process also took out a little bit of curb rash that was on the rim too!

how did you like your mx-5?

over the 3 years ive had it. it was great. thinking i would carry less people and being smaller less overall stuff, i still managed to drive it more than my mazda3. i gave my 3 back a couple months earlier with 93k km on it, im giving my mx5 with 94.5k lol.

i just learned to not take unnecessary things wiht me and everything fit well. unlike other competitors, the folding hardtop folds behind the seats (like the softtop) so no trunk space was wasted. i used just this car to move in and out of waterloo while i was there. i just carried the essentials like clothes and laptop thoguh (bought everything else there).

in terms of performance i did opt for the 6at with paddles. the shifts were fairly quick thogh im sure manual would have been more fun. in terms of handling the car was fairly planted on stock suspension setup (i didnt go for the performance package which added bilsteins). on miata.net the most common fix of any type of roll was rx8 sways, but never opted for them!

overall this car was a blast to drive, took it as far as pittsburg several times and it was very comfortable getting there. it was my year round car so it saw winter, hail, freezing rain etc but it still performed well (you definitely need winters on this RWD car though). there was nothing it couldnt go thorugh, even that 20cm snow fall last winter!

if you have a second car, then consider this as its really cheap and really good on insurance. even if you dont have a second car, dont drive like a mofo in winter and it/you will be fine!
