Hey guys and gals....
Does anyone know how to differentiate an "authentic" iphone from the knockoffs? I probably am going to be buying one soon but from someone I know personally who sells them. Its a very good price so when I check it out I wana make sure its no knockoff.

Yes they do exist. I didn't know till about a week ago. This lady I spoke to has a bunch of them. She advertised the new 3GS 32 GB for 400.00. I'm going to go check it out as she is like an hour away. But I need to go armed with the information of knowing how to spot a fake. I"m not sure if the differences are subtle or major.

Check you tube. There's videos online on how to spot differences. It's mostly to do with the software then the physical exterior.
$400 for 3GS must be a fake
but I'm willing to go for a ride i can tell my fakes from real
ill just bring my real one with me =)

Ya the lady is in london. I'm very skeptical on the deal but it it is legit than thats a crazy deal. She said one year warranty blah blah too. I asked her why so cheap and she said they buy in bulk and the stores that sell them mark them wayyyyy up.
I'll check out youtube..unless u have a direct link? My friend actually said that the real ones are heavier physically.
funny shit that rogers or fido cant get them
but she can LOL
BTW it took me 7 weeks to get my 3GS from rogers :complain

Apple store sells them. But definately no bulk retailer. Apple is strict on the sales of their products. If you are too ignorant to accept this. Have fun with a fake

The font on the iphone is different....(Software as junior said)
If you know how the iPhone or iTouch software look, you are good.
Also, knock offs typically dont have WIFI or BLUETOOTH. And if you go diggin, there is usually a SD Card inside the phone LOL.

LOL. If your iPhone doesn't come with a stylus, it's a knockoff!

When I was buying an iPhone off a private seller, I was told to match the IMEI on the box with the IMEI on the back of phone itself. I'm
not sure if anybody can fake those etchings though and it does require you to take off the plastic wrapping off the box so you can open it and inspect it.
When I bought mine, I did that. I turned the phone on to look for dead pixels as well.
I know a friend who tried to but an iPhone off of Craigslist as well. It's a good thing she opened the box and took off the plastic wrapping because she found nothing inside but mashed up tiles taped to the inside of the box so it wouldn't shake around.

well okay think of it this way, everyone is selling the real thing on ebay for $600+ US, why would she sell you one phone for $400?

Interesting....lol
Reminds me of that Consumerist article about Best Buy selling I think a computer (I cant remember) and there were tiles inside it as well when he got home and opened the box. Best Buy didnt wanna take it back and the customer went through hell trying to get a chargeback.
Maybe a copycat lol

jsut cuz its cheap doesn't mean its not real... just could have fallen off a truck lol... know what I mean :chuckle
Pretty easy to tell a knock off from the real thing.... if you are going out to london.. not a big deal if she will let you look at it first
