View Full Version : Installing Gauges

So picked up a set of gauges, and while they are being shipped to me, I had a few questions on installing them, I am probably going to get Macguyer to wire them up, but I would for my own sake on the sensors, know where some of the installation points are for the senders.
I think I got most of the right, however just had a few questions if thats where everyone else installed them, OR if the places I selected are going to be problems/have problems.
Boost:
'T' into the BPV line and run that to the electronic sender (which then goes to the boost gauge). I should have more then enough room to install the 'T' in there and run the line to the sending unit.
Water Temp:
I got a 30mm rad hose sender adaptor (basically its a pipe that has a place in the middle to put the temp sensor in and it goes inline somewhere in the upper rad hose). If I were to remove the OEM Airbox, it seems like I can get to the upper rad hose and just take off the hose and put it in. Does anyone have the partnumber for the stock rad hose. I would like to buy another so I can bench install the adaptor and just swap the hoses.
Oil Pressure:
I ordered the spin-on conversion and also got a free oil sandwhich adaptor from when I bought the gauges. So swap over to the spin-on oil filter pedestal then install the sandwhich adaptor and install the oil pressure sensor into that. My only worry is with the spin-on oil filter pedestal PLUS the sandwhich plate adaptor PLUS the filter, would I run out of room and hit the undercover? Or will the filter clear that but hang low to the point where its basically at a point where things off the road can hit it?
I got all 3 gauges as a package w/ the sandwhich plate and the water temp adaptor. I may switch up the water temp gauge later on with a AFR gauge, but thats later.

BTW incase anyone was wondering this is the gauge manufacturer, Swoosh and heres a you tube of them in action. I had STRI gauges in my MSP before, but they were hella expensive, not DEFi expensive but still bout 170 a gauge. You can find these for about 60 a gauge.

You can't go wrong with getting them installed by McGuyver. Come out to a wednesday Paloma meet and he can probably do it right there in the parking lot!

Much prefer this set-up for mounting the gauges. I have the same set-up, but different gauges. This is another MS3 member here.

Here are some videos of the gauges and set-up as I have in my MS3. These vids are not from my car, but are courtesy of someone else on the forum when he had them in his. For some stupid reason, I have never taken photos or vids of the gauges in my car. Must fix that...

I have to agree this is an awesome setup. But a little too pricey for me.
I only posted the link to show the OP where I had the Tee fitting and sending unit installed.

I was just going to say, it does look awesome. I would still rock the air vent boost gauge though. I like my boost gauge on my left when I'm driving. The other gauges can be on the right.

Thanks for the info guys.
I have a CPe Center Gauge Console on order so it will be going there.
But my main concern is the oil pressure gauge and it being to 'long' after having the filter, sandwhich, pedestal.

Installed :D
So Turbo/Boost gauge is installed (including sensor and all that), the Oil pressure and Water temp are installed BUT the sensors are not. Those are going to be put in next oil change when I swap over to the spin on kit and when I get my spare upper rad pipe.

Not sure if anyone can help me out but worth a try,
My original prosport boost gauge were setup as follows:
Lights On = Amber
Lights Off = White
unfortunately all of a sudden, my gauge only comes on now when the lights are turned "on".
The gauge works fine when the lights are on.
Otherwise when the lights are off, the entire gauge is off.
Anyone have an idea what happened?
The only thing electrical I did recently was clear my CEL code.

Sounds like you need to recheck your wiring. Is the area where you spliced into the wiring accessible?
My gauge did that when I hooked up the lighting wire for the 1st time. I had to unplug power from it completely. Then it worked fine. Like it needed to be hard reset.

I actually got the adaptor off ebay. I had a 32mm one thats actually to big. I measured and 32 was the right size from what I thought. However the error was the rad pipe goes from a bigger size to bit smaller once it passes the necks of the rad.
28mm should be the right one, I have a new one on order so once it comes i'll install it and go from there.

Did you end up installing them yourself or did you get McGuyver to do it?

Could you send/post a link for this adapter, please?
Thanks.
Did you ever figure out your wiring thing? I noticed my Prosport gauge always decides what color it wants to show. For weeks/months it'll be normal (White with lights off, orange with lights on), then randomly when I'm cranking the car it will reset to white with the lights on. The pattern I've found is, if the lights go on when you're cranking your car (IE: It's dark out and the lights turn on when you immediately turn the key), you have a 50/50 chance that the Prosport will reset to lights off color mode. :)

Did you think about doing an inline heater hose adapter instead? Seems a lot easier.

It accepts a 1/8 NPT fitting.

I'll post up pics tonight. I actually got the new adaptor in. Its a 28mm that goes into the upper rad hose. Got it off ebay for a few bucks plus shipping. I think it came to a total of 12-13 bucks CDN.
Its already drilled/tapped for the sensor for the water temp sensor.
