So I've seen this question posted around here and there, but coud not find a direct answer (even when using the search function)...
I'm removing my current CAI, and replacing it with the Injen (in SRI mode). With that said, what size of filter should I be using?
For example:
2.50" Air Filter 6" Base/ 5" Tall/ 5" Top
2.75" Air Filter 5" Base/ 5" Tall / 4" Top
2.75" Air Filter 6" Base/ 5" Tall/ 5" Top
3" Air Filter 5" Base/ 4 7/8" Tall/ 4" Top
3.00" Air Filter 6" Base/ 5" Tall/ 4" Top
3.00" Air Filter 6" Base/ 5" Tall/ 4" Top
3.00" Air Filter 6" Base/ 5" Tall/ 4" Top
3.00" Air Filter 6" Base/ 5" Tall/ 5" Top
3.50" Air Filter 6 3/4" Base/ 5" Tall/ 5" Top
4.50" Filter 6 .75" Base/ 5" Tall/ 5" Top
Thanks.

:) Yeah I know Peter... I only started to 2nd guess myself as I also heard 2.5 and 2.75 from other peeps at your place the other evening. But the consensus I'm getting from most is the same as you advised... 3 inches.

I'm pretty sure it's 3" at the coupling.
The rest doesn't really matter. Wether it's a 6" or 5" base, 5" length tapered to a 4" tip, it's irrelevant.
To be safe go with the 5" length. Too long and there might be some clearance issues

Thanks everyone for the PM's and responses! Much appreciated....

Do not get a 3" base! The tube diameter at the first coupling is more like 2.75 but don't quote me on that. I fit a 3" on there but had to clamp it down tight. The injen was never really supposed to be used as an SRI because of it's position behind the radiator.

Ideally, you'd want a filter shorter than 5" because it comes into contact with the frame, the radiator fan, and the radiator tubing, which is bad because those tubes run extremely hot. You won't have a heat shield either. I tried mine as an SRI despite the dyno results from M3F being worst than stock. I noticed a very very slight pick up difference in the 2.5-3K RPM range, but it was gone as soon as it it hit 3.5K. My advice is to keep the Injen as a CAI. The pick up is much more linear and it will pick up after 3K.

the injen comes with a 3" filter. a 2.75 probably wont fit.

I have the injen with two different filters. It comes with a 3.0" filter because it was only meant to be used as a CAI. Yes the 3.0" filter fits the end of the CAI, but the tubing is not 3.0" all throughout. Try placing the supplied filter on the end of the first portion of tubing and you'll see what I mean.

^^
gonna have to agree with poster above, tried the 3" base 8 months ago doesnt fit as a SRI, been trying to find the right size but got lazy think its a 2.5-2.75 definitly not 3" tho
