My car is at 384XX KM and check engine light comes on just today. No new mods installed lately, is it just a maintenance light that the dealer wants me to go there and give them some money? :whoa

Is it on steady or flashing? Steady you can drive the car safely as what is wrong isn't critical, such as a bad 02 sensor (although it may not work 100% right); flashing there is potential of real damage, example the timing is unreliable.

Nice to see TM3 people helping out!
Too bad I sold my DH, can't help a good buddy out :(
Anyone thinks that it might be his CAI contributing it? Could it suck up some water today during rain?

If it was the CAI, that would mean something is messed with the MAF sensor. Either the wires are stretched and pulling out, or the contacts are corroded, etc. If the ECU isnt reading the MAF properly the idle would be all over the place, the car would be bogging and jolting forward and would be pretty much undrivable above idle speed. The car will still start with the MAF completely unplugged, as I found out when I was putting my stock intake back in. :chuckle
Ive gone through basically what were monsoons with my CAI and never had any problems. If it sucked up enough water to mess with the MAF sensor then the engine would have hydrolocked.

The two most likely scenario's are the ones already mentioned.
1) The gas cap not being tightened fully (needs 3 clicks) and fuel pressure irregularity. The 3's and even my Protege prior have always been very sensitive to this and throw CEL's very easily.
2) The CAI is contributing to the problem and the MAF didn't like something that may have happened with the air flow. What kind of CAI is it and how long have you had it on the car? If it is an AEM or Mazdaspeed CAI, are you running the air straightener with it?
If it is neither of these, the O2 sensors are the next most likely problem with this car.
In any case, you are under warranty. I wouldn't drive around for long with an undiagnosed CEL if I were you. Get it in to be looked at.

Its a MS CAI, says it in his sig. Ive never had a problem with my MS CAI, air straightener or not.

I didn't look at his sig.
The MS CAI is fine with the air straightener. However, lots of people with an MS CAI that don't have the air straightener threw CEL's like crazy. This is partly why Mazda discontinued it.

It is a Mazdaspeed CAI installed by the previous owner like 1-2 years ago already. I drove the car since 4 months ago and never have any problems. I will get it checked for sure....and will call the dealer to make an appointement.

The code should still be stored in the ECU.

DTC P2187: fuel system too lean at idle - bank 1
leak in the intake somewhere between the maf and turbo. check the recirc tube from the bpv and vaccuum tube on the turbo inlet pipe. if you have an intake w/o an air straightener that could be the culprit as well ]
I did a few searches and found the above. Hope this helps.

So if I have an mazdaspeed CAI, the dealer may charge me to fix it because the CAI is not stock component?
and why is the light on and off? lol

Since your CAI is a certified part from Mazda, I doubt they'll charge you to fix your problem. Bring it to them and I'm almost positive they will fix this free of charge. Theres a good chance that this intake didnt come with an air straigtner which could be the HUGE problem why your MAF is acting up.
Its ON and OFF probably because the MAF is not getting an accurate reading.
