Loss of horsepower/torque?

I purchased my manual, 04 hatch in May of ‘08 and currently have 125000 km on it. My previous car was a manual 96 Ford Escort LX so this was a definite up-grade. One of the first things I noticed with the Mazda was the extra zip it had but lately that seems to be lacking and it seems rather gutless. Could it be that I’ve just gotten used to the car or is there a chance something is wrong mechanically? I keep telling myself it’s all my imagination but I would swear it had more pep and better acceleration when I got it.

Any ideas/thought would be appreciated.

have you ever changed it?

At that mileage I would make sure the regular maint has been kept up with.

Like the above mentioned, simple things like the air and fuel filters can easily affect performance to noticeable levels.
