Hey in the last week i've had a new noise arise. EVERYTIME i turn the wheel about a quarter turn (it doesnt matter if its right or left) i hear a creaking noise from the steering column. The noise is almost like a noise you would expect to hear from twisting a dry rubber boot that surrounds something.
any ideas?

could be something with the clock spring or the steering column itself... you should have it looked at by the dealer... probably some parts replacement involved

Do you think it had anything to do with the weather change? Since its cold, things should contract a bit.

no, not a chance it was the weather. the noise is constant and in the exact same spot everytime, it does not go away. The car is going in thursday night. Hopefully i get my steering column noise fixed and a new wheel bearing....or whatever is wrong with the front area of my car making other noises........
needless to say, WAY to many noises and little problems for a fairly new car(07 hatch, 73000km).....oh and i forgot to tell them about my glove box, which is drooping a bit and making lovely noises as well. If i could i'd sell the thing and import a mazdaspeed 6 from the states
