View Full Version : Does anyone here work for the City of Toronto?
I got a callback for 2 jobs i applied to over the summer: Client support specialist (http://wx.toronto.ca/inter/hr/jobs.nsf/73d8f37fbff29b7385256fe0003ff434/e9a4e8a4c404d2e18525762400577b45?OpenDocument) and client support analyst (http://wx.toronto.ca/inter/hr/jobs.nsf/73d8f37fbff29b7385256fe0003ff434/b3c0c3a1a81b8b8c85257624005814a5?OpenDocument). They want me to go in to do a written test wednesday morning. I don't know what to expect in terms of the types of questions they're gonna ask on the test. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any suggestions would help =D

Check the original job posting and make sure you address everything that is stated in the posting. You will be scored based on how much you match the job call. Be exact.

You can call and ask the recruiter what the test will be based on..
usually i know with the Ontario Govt, tests are based on basic skills of the job.
If you are a business analyst, you will write a business case or a project plan
if you are going for an HR job or communication, writting a memo, or formal communication, or a business case is not uncommon
Most likely they will test you on customer service skills and/or general technical issues that you may come across during the job.
Good luck :)
thanks for all the tips guys! suddenly i don't feel so nervous. looks like i gots some studying to do

Yeah all i can say is, with the limited resources you have, study their branch/division (if you can), know their values, mission and vission that is always important.
Incorporate those into your answers. show how youa re customer oriented.
When speaking in the interview ensure that most of the qualifications you speak to have some real world example, they love to see examples.
mm and just bring your tech knowledge!
When you get in tip me off regarding any HR jobs in there haah :p

do you work for the ontario gov? I know what you mean about "real world" examples..they always ask the SAME QUESTIONS. "tell me about a time when..blah" sometimes i can't remember cuz its been a long time, so i just make up crap on the fly.

yeah i'm with the Govt, but my contract is up in june lol.. been lookin around internally, hope to stay here..
You are right it's all those types of questions.. I guess just be happy you dont have a pre assignment..
I have a friend who recently left the govt for the city of Toronto.
Thanks for all the feedback. Had the test this morning. It was 12 pages of questions, all technical stuff about hardware, network protocols, windows, and office 2007. Pretty easy stuff, but I would have preferred a pre-assignment or something more hands on
