As we all know, sadly winter is coming and we all need to prepare in advance. PLEASE, last year was a mess and lost a bunch of members cars. Lets try to avoid that this year, be safe. Put your snow tires on, dont go out if you dont have to ( EG: Mcdonalds Run) Sand bags in the trunk to give it some weight. Dont go fast, Take trips in advanced.. wake up earlier..

Dont be rushing as if it were summer, I'm not trying to be pushy with this topic but safety is first and we would like to try and avoid most of the accidents compared to last year.

If you have anything to add please do, winter preparations related to safety as well as proper maintenance of your vehicle.

Rock on :headbang

Putting sand bags in the trunk of a front wheel drive car would be stupid

yup, I go to newmarket to see the family and they get snow sooner than we do. Plus I saw the temperature this week was going to be in the single digits so figured why take a chance.

if i can recall correctly, i recall allen saying something about once the temp is below 15 degrees, it is ok to run winters

Thats right....sorry to hear about the tire problem.

Yup, I heard that a few years ago and I'm not too worried. Plus I worry when the temp at night has been dropping along with rain and have the summers on. Better to be on the safe side.

In Dante's case it would be fine, he has a RWD Genesis

Which means we should put sandbags in our engine bays. *duh*

It snowed today, and it's snowing tonight...I love Calgary, but I'm still not buying winter tires...luckily my commute is all main roads.

good call dante. i remember that like, 20 of us got into some sort of accident last year.

winter tires are a must (im glad i made the switch!)
keep a shovel or something in the trunk
and my favourite tool: those snow track things (that you put under the tire to get grip).
it saved my ass so many times last year.

Negative. All my buddies warn me about bringing sand to the beach and that I shouldn't do it, but they're just being cautious.

Sandcastles ftw! /threadcrap

Sorry to the original topic of the thread. For winter prep, I usually top up my washer fluid, change up other fluids in the car, make sure the heaters working, throw on the winter tires and toss a portable shovel in the trunk.

It's all fun after that. Getting stuck is part of the experience of winter driving.

Sand bags are heavy enough to keep my rear down as I do have RWD, Altough I remember rear weight does help so your car does not slip and slide. Just keepin the peace peoples, i want you all alive :D

underground parking ftw!

but yes... people seriously need to learn to wipe off the snow off their car. It is such a big pet peeve of mine... people who don't clean the car off the roof or trunk and just let the wind take it off... or the people who get into their car and use the windshield wipers take it off the window and then start driving

I'm putting my snows on mid-november

be safe everyone!! :)
