hey guys,
just a quick question - so my AC died and i refuse to put 3k into fixing it - id rather buy a bolt on turbo lol
so with that side i thought id lighten my load and just remove the crap - any draw backs from doing that and how difficult with this be for a supreme novice to do?
K
what u gonna do in summer?

I'm interested in knowing if there are any gains to be had. Personally, the only time I run my AC is in the winter to dehumidify my car before I park. I never use it in the summer (I can't stand the loss of power!).

you might lose 20lbs at the most... if you really want to completely remove it, you'll need to pull the dashboard out to get the evaporator out
it's NOT worth the trouble
what is the 3k involving? is it the compressor? you can buy these components from a junk yard and have a shop put it in for you!

+1. If I had to replace the A/C it would definitely not be with completely new components. Definitely start looking at junk yards.

and evacuating the system should NOT be left to a complete novice. Do you have your ODP certificate? Proper evacuation training? a proper recovery machene? You are not allowed to evacuate r134a into the atmosphere, its a big ministry no no, you are allowed very small amounts, but thats just for when you connect/disconnect your gauges, consider it "allowable loss"....
i wouldn't recommend evacuating a system if you are a complete novice
