hi folks.
I'm a new 2005 mazda 3 sport owner & thought to get your advise on this.

When I bought the car, I managed to get 1 year warranty on engine & transmission. Now, warranty company is suggesting/offering me an additional year (2 years) and would cover the head gasket for additional $225.

My question to you, what would usually cause the head gasket to be replaced? (I don't remember ever having to fix that). Is that something common among mazda 3's? And am I getting a good/fair deal here?

I should say my car has driven 93K.

Thanks

Paying for extra warranty is tricky. Do you really need it? I researched the M3 up and down before buying one and found that apart from some rust problems; well OK lots of rust problems, the car is reliable as hell. Given that, unless you think it may have been abused; and you likely wouldn't buy it then, you don't likely need extra drive train warranty with that amount of mileage.

Make sense? Head gaskets can go from two major reasons, neglecting the maintainance badly and driving the bag off the vehicle. If you don't suspect either of those, don't worry.

If you are the kind of person that really needs peace of mind that nothing could go wrong, don't buy an '05.

Hope this helps.
