I'd like to eventually get my calipers painted. I've looked around and see that I can do it myself or get someone else to do it for me.
My question is, how long does the paint last, realistically? I realize that Canada doesn't have the most forgiving winters, so how long will the paint last before it starts to crack/fade?
I spoke with SFW last night and he mentioned something about having the calipers powder coated and baked. How much more reliable is this method than just simple painting?

Powder coating is much more effective and will definitely hold up better/longer than painting. I had mine painted 2 seasons ago and they have been good up until now. I will probably have to have them re-done next year. Ideally I will want to have them powder coated in a couple of years when I need a good brake overhaul.

I painted my calipers back in April with cheap Canadian Tire paint, and it has held up surprisingly well!!! No cracks or fading, just a little dirty from neglect :P I guess we'll see how well the paint holds up this winter, although I imagine they might need a quick touch up in the spring, which isn't a huge deal to do when the tires are being swapped anyway.

What paint did you use?

Allen at SimplyTire did them for me so whatever paint he used. Also Mine weren't cleared like the ones he does now so they should last even longer now if you get them done by him.
Cool, thanks. I have been considering picking up the G2 Caliper Paint (http://www.g2usa.com/) and doing it myself.
Maybe a spring project.

Yeah, I heard the G2 paint is supposed to be pretty good.

Almost 2 years ago I painted my calipers with Tremclad rust paint - black. The stuff in a can, used a small paint brush. Still holding up strong. I think the key is, I used a wire wheel to clean the calipers first, then cleaned them with brake cleaner, then painted away.

I've used it on my last two cars. Holds up well. But I also reapply everytime I swap my summer/winter wheels. Keeps it looking nice and fresh.
