Im considering buying a mazda speed3 this spring but am worried about insurance rate skyrocketing. Is there a big difference in insurance between a mazda 3 sport gt and a mazda speed 3?

It depends on who you ask and on your insurance company, some company's just consider it a 5 door car, others see it as a limited run high performance sports car.

Depends on your age and your record. If your like 17-24 and have a bad record... yeaa. All depends on your record and your age and your license.

+1111111. If I bought a mazdaspeed3... uhhh my insurance would most likely double.

Belair direct has a great online quoting system. It will allow you to compare insurance rates for the 2 models. There probably will not be a great difference since factors such as driving record, home address, km driven per year, number of years insured, if it's a new or used car, etc. will have an important influence on insurance rates; maybe even more than the type of car your drive.

No difference with my insurance company between a new MS3 and MZ3 GT Sport Hatch. They don't differentiate them. The Civic Si and WRX on the other hand, were a fair bit more expensive, with the Si easily the most expensive when I was shopping and ended up with the MS3.

The Si's and the WRXs are ones of the most stolen cars out there therefore the insurance on them is higher...

Yup, I know. Especially the Honda's in general. Just saying as a point of comparison.

I went from an 03 Toyota Matrix XRS to a 2008.5 MS3 and my rates went up about $100/ year. I am 48 with a very clean driving record.

I did a Belair online quote between a 2010 GS sport (I didn't GT sport) and the 2010 mazdaspeed and it was about $1000 more per year, or about $85 per month more for the speed.

IRRC, the insurancehotline.com quote was about the same.

Not a huge difference, but I can buy a lot of lunches for $85 or 1.5 tanks of gas :chuckle

Yeah, it all depends on your driving record, age and residence location. Call a few insurance companies for quotes.

Cool car you got there. I'll take my MX-5 in black.

With statefarm, they told me that there is no difference in price between the speed3 and mazda3. The guy even encouraged me to get the speed3 because your getting that extra gain for the same insurance price!
