You have 2 options, go to court and tell them that you had an emergency and sencond is go to court and tell them that you had no choice and to prevent an accident you used the emergency lane.
3rd one is to pay the amount ;)
A hard shoulder, or simply shoulder, is a reserved area by the verge of a road or motorway. Generally it is kept clear of all traffic. In the event of an emergency or breakdown, a motorist can pull into the hard shoulder to get out of the flow of traffic and obtain an element of safety. A hard shoulder also allows some extra flexibility should a motorist need to take evasive action, as it is a buffer area between the main thoroughfare and the edge of the road. Emergency vehicles such as ambulances and police cars may also use the shoulder to bypass traffic congestion. These uses lead to the alternative names breakdown lane and emergency lane.

4th Option.
Pay the ticket and stop driving on the highway shoulder.

it depends on why you were using the sholder! if your one of those people who drive down the lane that is ending and then just ride the sholder untill the next merging lane, if this is the case you deserve it and need to pay up. But if it was becuase you had to prevent an accident from happening etc then i would fight it. IMO

But isn't it the clearest out of all the lanes?

if I was the judge neither of the excuse offered would work. If you had an emergency prove it. If you went on the shoulder to avoid an accident than you were too close to the car in front but what might work is someone cut you off and had to steer onto the shoulder, but you should have stopped and tried to merge back into traffic.
speeding is 30? explain..pay up

What they all said is exactly true. Pay it. There truely is no excuse for driving on the shoulder, if you were late shoulda left earlier really. I hate people that do that and I see people do that. Unless it was an emergency then really there is no reason to fight it. Plus no points either so what is the big deal. And where the hell is cost for speeding 30$. My 15 over was 52.50 and my 35 over was 265.

Your always better to set a court date, You'll either get a reduced fine or but the grace of god the cop may not show and it'll get tossed out. Now if you were to take the day of work, pay for parking and yada yada yada. Is it worth it for 110 bucks.

i hate these threads.
just pay the damn ticket unless, you think you didnt deserve it.
ie, avoiding an accident, emergency stop = didnt deserve it
speeding because you were late, using the shoulder to bypass some traffic = pay up.

+1. I hate it when people skip up on the shoulder. If this was you, pay the consequences.

Yah, great advice Dante. Why should anyone in society be accountable for their own stupidity and ignorance of others, when it is just easier to play the system.

If you fight it you stand the chance of having it reduced. Honestly, in my opinion, if you were driving on the shoulder just because it was open you deserve to be caught and I think you should pay the fine. That said, if you needed to escape a dangerous situation then it sounds like everyone's day was a little better off because you took the shoulder; explain that to the judge and see how it goes.

Set a court date and then tell the court that you are an idiot. Own up to your mistakes. I don't care if a lady is giving birth in your car...call an ambulance.
Why should the public pay for your mistakes when you slam into the guardrail? Even worse, slam into another car that is ACTUALLY trying to avoid a collision by swerving into the shoulder?
Stop worrying about how to fight tickets, and just try not to get them.

I love how this "acting" of morality come's into play but when everyone is off to there normal lives mistakes are committed by the minute and "Plays" to society are done by all of you. I don't care, I'm not going to let a government play me, Ive received my fair share of unfair tickets. With the freedom of speech we are allowed in this country its pretty just that we are able to fight what we feel is wrong. I'm not saying I speed 100kMH in a 40 zone and go fight the ticket, Stupid ticket's like "dark tint's" that were done LEGALLY in a dealership etc etc.
and CWP if you want to make this a personal grudge take your ill mannered comments to PM.

This is not personal, it's just the obvious. I don't have a personal grudge against you because you are not worth my time.
This isn't one of those "unfair" tickets. The individual was driving on the shoulder doing 110. I've never driven on the shoulder, never. I've also always sat in a lane during rush hour traffic like 98% of other drivers, while others cut down merge lanes, etc. just to get a few cars ahead. This is how it's supposed to be even if it take me twice the time to get home.
Yes, if it were me I would have fought the ticket without question, but I wouldn't have posted it here because you know everyone is going to jump on you for driving like an idiot. This is unsafe driving but you clearly didn't recognize it, or if you did, probably drive like this yourself and don't care.
Zoom Zoom Boy said it all "Why should anyone in society be accountable for their own stupidity and ignorance of others, when it is just easier to play the system". Like you said above, this is exactly what you do yourself when it comes to any and all tickets.
