Hey guys,

I decided to paint my ABS open mouth grill..as the black ABS finish was fading and showing on my black mica. So I sanded it down, primered, applied many thin light coats of paint, let it dry for a few hours and then applied a few coats of clear. Now its drying but it still looks very dull and rough :(

I've read that now I need to sand with a fine grit like 1500, 2000 and apply some rubbing or polishing compound and after that some scratch remover that doesnt contain wax. Have I missed a step as to why it is rough and dull or should the shiny gloss show after sanding and using the compounds on the clear coat? And also did you guys use the TW Rubbing compound or the polishing compound on the clearcoat?

This was my first DIY paintjob and it looks great but just not as glossy as I had hoped!

to be vague, as their are many products you can use
you need to do a wet sanding with as u said 1500-2000 grit sandpaper, just to smoothe everything out, and then use apolish compouond, and that will bring the glossy look to it

done many diy paintwork on my car, and thats the process i use

would you reccommend the red turtle wax rubbing compound or the green polishing compound?

If you want my opinion I made the paint and sanded with water, and then did the clear and sanded again with water... but i love the look right now :)
