Hello buddies...

Yesterday, November 18th, i installed my Takeda Short Ram Intake. After the intall i tested it... and you know what? I LOVE IT!

Amazing sound, acceleration improvement, not very noticeable but still feel it. The Speed go up faster, love the inhalation sound and burp sound to! :)

Definitely for what i paid of i'm very happy. All cost with shipping 247$ CAD.

Will post pics soon.

Some issues with the installation TAKEDA SRI:

1st Issue: the crank case line attached with the plastic is very hard to take off, more precisely is the plastic which is hard to remove of the OEM air tube. I had to take off the metal ring with hold the plastic in place.

2nd Issue: After the replacement of the OEM Filtering system for the TAKEDA SRI when you connect the crank case line to the Intake tube you will find that the placement of the case line is not in a good angle and you will see the attachment of the plastic tube with the crank case line turned to the right about 20 degrees. There is any problem with that util is attached and don't go out.

3rd Issue: The air plastic for the battery, after the intallation of the Takeda SRI, do not fit anymore because of the filter head. The filter is big or let's say it come out very high, and if you want to intall that plastic you need to pull down the Intake very hard. Personnally i don't recomend you to do it. Solution: i just removed this part. (The battery needs cold air or air flow??? I don't think so. There are many cars with out such part and they work well. You still have the little hole on that battery box.

Hope this will help you guys!

1st Issue - It's not really an issue with the intake but with OEM airbox. But you're right, that plastic part is really a pain to take off. I had to take the metal ring out too.

2nd Issue - Try to rotate the intake clockwise (when standing on the driver side of the car). when I did that I also fixed part if the problem in Issue #3, but not all. but at least if I have to push the intake down, i'm not pushing it much.

After:

3rd Issue - pls refer to my reply in Issue #2. Unless I get some scientific explanation that it's ok or it's not ok to have that vent, I'm keeping it on. Must be there for a reason...

:)

That what i thought too, maybe the angle wasn't right for the Intake position. Listen finally did you put back the battery plastic or you drive with out it?

You need to undo the clips holding the wires going to the MAF from the battery box. If you don't there is a high chance you will damage them!

It looks like from the picture that they are still attached to the battery box.

I put battery vent plastic back on, like I said, until I get am expert explanation for the use of the vent, i'm keeping it on. :) maybe someone could chime in on this?

Yup I already did, I even cut the plastic wrap to give it more play. Thanks for the concern and for noticing :)

Yup, already found it. $218 plus $50 USPS Priority. Pricey.

Found a Simota SRI for much cheaper and its a Carbon Fiber housing to boot. It's a tube type, not the box one.

Thanks!

So I have mentioned before that the battery vent was pushing on the filter when using the vent. NOT A GOOD IDEA. The intake vibrates and moves all the time and the rubber base of the filter can get damaged if it rubs against the vent. I adjusted mine again now i have at least 1" clearance between the vent and filter. Good thing i checked.

vartdirector
11-23-2009, 09:11 AM
ok... i see... well i leaved the mine with no vent, the battery don't get hot enough to need cold air...

bunchi
11-23-2009, 06:26 PM
One more thing i considered which made me put the vent back is i'm afraid water can go into the front grill, through the opening for the vent and to the sri, which if you look at it, it's just behind that opening for the vent, unless you cover that opening. Just thinking of possibilities...

vartdirector
11-24-2009, 09:52 AM
Well if you think, the little vent which go to the end of the hood, can take some water from there too if you go fast and when there are showers.

I installed the battery cover and leaved the little horizontal 1.5" hole... ;)

I think there's nothing to worry about cause the hole is from the interior side :)

Thanks!

Does anyone have any pics of this intake with the battery cover installed? My brother in law is loong for a SRI and currently tied between this one and the Simota V4 SRI
One of his concerns is how claen it looks under the hood also.

i'll find out maybe come spring.. i haven't paying much attention to my mileage because 1. my mileage always sucks during winter and 2. i like hearing intake so i would step on it more than i used to. plus there's also some other things changed in the car's set up.. but i'll give an update soon... just have to be my old self when driving lol

Fits perfectly and sounds great.

Pending how well the original intake is designed you won't see that much of an increase in mileage.. you may actually see it decrease as you will want to HEAR your intake so you will be heavier on the throttle.

the rubber supplied by this make of intake is prone to ripping apart, the one i had a while back, ripped within the first two weeks, and found out later, when my check engine light was on. especially with the dig in straps they give. just a heads up.

I also heard about the rubber splitting on another forum. When I was installing mine it was coated in a thin layer of oil that I had to clean off and emery the inside of the coupler and the outside of the intake, otherwise it would slip off as soon as it was tightened down. I ordered a reinforced one the same day which was a much better piece, now I have no worries about it at all.

This is what I use now:

Might increase your fuel economy due to slower acceleration. SRI often do nothing or just makes the engine suck warm air, reducing power. Not sure what the stock non-speed air box is like but it wouldn't be the first time SRI do nothing like goggles on duff man in the simpsons.

This is only true for the initial start "off the line" as the car starts to move and air starts to flow around the engine bay after about a second or so, then all is well and off you go!

Doesnt matter if you're going or not, hot air is hot air, this isnt a CAI we're talking about its an SRI. The only thing you might get is a bit better throttle response, rest is just sound.
