For those of you who get benefits through work, just wondering what you're paying on average for them.

Just found out that mine haven't been deducted for the past year and I'm stuck paying $76/month now :( Seems like a lot. Might be better off getting my own plan maybe?

That doesn't sound that bad. What are you getting though for coverage?

Do you actually pay for the benefits, or just the tax?

did you mean those insurance benefits that you get from work? i.e. medicine, dental, vision, massage etc...? nothing comes off my paycheck :)

some companies split the cost with the employee.

It used to cost me (only) $45 per pay period (bi weekly) for dental & health, they sponser me $32.5 (taxable) back and I pick and choose whatever package I want.

next year, 2010 is free =D up to two dependents included

med is 80% generic
dental is 100/80/20. 2 annual recalls and 16 units cleaning.

Hmm, yeah ok, I seem to be getting about the same as everyone else... 80% medical, 100% dental, and some sort of massage business which I'll probably never use :chuckle

Makes me wonder though if I'm actually going to use $900+/year in benefits. I have no dependents, and I don't think dental cleanings will ever add up to that much, unless I go monthly lol

Think of it as insurance (in case shit). If you don't use it, then it was a small price to pay to be protected, but if something happens and you need to be on expensive drugs, or be hospitalized for 3-4 days, then it will have payed for itself (private hospital rooms cost approx $250/day), which most Employee Health Plans cover.

Other things that may be covered are visits to the the optometrist (no longer covered by OHIP), chiropractic, orthodics, etc.

I was debating whether to cut my benefit or not since the only thing I use are dental recalls, I'm not on any drugs and I felt like I'm not using the benefit to potential.. then 2010 it became free lol.

Or if you can get health spending account at work, you can put a couple hundred in it and use the money in there instead. Money put in health spending account = tax free.

One dental recall is low $100? assume twice a year. $250 and assume you never ever get sick you will save $650/year :D

but for female, you can get other things like like birth control, shots not covered by ohip.

Mine is expensive! over $100 a month (comes off the first pay each month) to cover me and my son. But it won't go up from there if/when I have another child/ marry someone.

It's pretty much full coverage for anything though. So can't complain.

I pay 25$ a month for 100% coverage for Dental and Health beneifts/medications.Plus it has fairly good coverage for hospitalizationa dsurgeries and a great perscription plan . Some things are limited like eye glasses but I get 2 pairs every 2 years due to a grand fathered clause .

I don't have to pay anything (other than tax on the benefit), and essentially have 100% coverage for everyone in my family. There is a deductable for drugs and dental, dental is only covered using the last year rate schedule, and vision coverage is a discount at certain opticians. However, we also get something called a HSA (Healthcare Spending Account, I think) that can be used to backfill what is 100% covered. So most years I am zero dollars out of pocket. I think this year I ended up spending $200 or $300... but I must have submitted well over $3000 worth of claims. (I had the bonding on three teeth repaired and that was $700 right there!).
