So I was playing Assassin's Creed 2 in the morning, everything going well for 30min and all of a sudden my PS3 shuts off. Thinking it was power surge, I turn everything back on and get it running, but while the game was loading up, it shuts off again. Then it hits me that something might be wrong, so I try to turn it on again and all it does is flash a yellow light and stays off.

I go online to search, and apparently its the PS3's version of RROD? Its overheating and so far I've read two ways of fixing this...pay $160 to send in to sony, OR open it your self and try to fix it.

Man...this had to happen when AC2 and MW2 is out...gay

Not as huge of a joke as Microsoft.
The failure rate for the Xbox360s is ridiculous.

a local company called Nexicore in markham might be able to help you. they apparently fix game consoles (ps3/xbox), laptops... i was in there last week walking around the back room notice a skid of ps3's. a friend of mine had his ps3 fixed there as well. i believe its the same problem as yours (not booting up)

good luck!

Really, China!? :whoa I always thought Sony products, especially their smaller electronics, were manufactured exclusively in Japan? I'm pretty sure there's an assembly plant for televisions in Mexico but now China!? From what I've read anyway, the newer, redesigned PS3 is suppose to use less of everything. I've had mine since September without any issue (knock on wood) and so far, I'm impressed with the quality/performance. I'm surprised I never noticed Made in China written on the box. I'm usually pretty thural when it comes to knowning the product before purchase. Guess I just took it for granted seeing as though the PS was an exclusive product of Japan. What is this world coming to? :complain

A growing % of Sony products are now made in china... you can thank Wal-Mart

If I'm not mistaken, Nexicore does all/most of the fixes for Best Buy/FailureShop. When I used to work there, I heard the managers/supervisors talking about it.

I called and they relocated and they have company extentions. What department would I be going to? I thought this was some small local company

I called and went to operator. Said they only fix ps3 from bestbuy's and futureshop, not personal nor walmart (which is where i bought mine)

Don't blame Wal-Mart...blame consumers for wanting things cheaper. It's thinking like this that is the cause for manufacturing shifting to China.

There's so much "economics 101" and "poli sci 101" fail in these statements, but I shall not even attempt to tackle them...

Let's try this...with a heavy dose of sarcasm:

I'm sure all the iPhones are made in China because we all want cheap ($700+ off contract) and low quality (low quality iPhone? really?)...you know, because all corporations (Wal-mart, Apple, Sony, etc.) want to do is deliver feature rich products at low-prices, rather than to squeeze more profit out of their products.

+1 with what Ami said.

Ben, I would NEVER, EVER recommend ANYONE take their console to Dante. He lies about his services just so he can get paid. Definitely go to a better place to have a console fixed.

Big time deals for Boxing day. Most retailers either have the 120 with 2 games (one has Ratchet & Clank + Little Big Planet, one has Killzone2 + Batman Arkham Asylum, etc) or the older 160 with Uncharted (the first one) + 2 additional games. Looks like the retailers got the $50 markdown dollars on the 160 to move the end of the product thru...

too bad I had to purchase my PS3 before Christmas, but I am very Zen about things like that. My son's reaction opening the PS3 was worth every penny.

I don't think the quality was any better to begin with...

My friend picked up one of the early launch units, the one with complete backwards compatibility and the media card reader, his drive has failed twice so far.

Knock on wood, my 80gb model with backwards compatability is still going strong! zero issues.
