Hi all,
I've search this entire forum to see if anyone had any issues with master brake cylinder.
I have a 2007 Mazda3 GT with 59,000 km. I recently changed my front brakes (pads and rotors), but my own mechanic never told me why my brake is so low. I finally decided to go to the dealer to see what's going on with my brakes. They told me that my master brake cylinder needs to be changed. That thing costs over $800 with labour! My warranty expired 2 weeks ago and I don't know what to do.
I'm have appointment scheduled for Monday with a service manager to see what can be done.
Any ideas? Do you guys know any good mechanics in Mississauga or Halton region? I'm sick and tired paying Mazda so much $$$$ for simple repairs.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I second that motion!...But I'd take it back to your mechanic and get a second opinion! Could just be it needs a brake bleed and the dealer is trying to shaft you.

Thanks for the comments. I did go back to my mechanic who changed my front brakes. He checked everything and said all is good. Mazda though thinks otherwise. My mechanic did bleed the brakes.
I'll update you all on Monday what is going on.
Am I the 1st one with this problem??

i had a similar issue, and it was the brake booster.
If your pedal sinks to where the gas pedal begins, before you get power, thats normal.
Your extended warranty should cover it, also some parts have longer warranty than others.

yours is a 2006 3 to 4 years old and a power booster already, WTF is it with these cars, Not comparing apples to apples but I have a 21 year old truck,, 1/2 ton changed the master cylinder this summer with over 200,000KM, still the same booster and it stops on a dime.
Also have a 26 year old Oldsmobile with 150KM still the same booster and master cylinder. Are the parts made in China on the Mazda? Not bashing China but it makes you think about all the crap that comes out of that country, like Japan in the 50's and 60's

To my knowledge, I think I am the only member so far to have a defective brake booster. Overall, I don't think its too bad, I was just unlucky.

Parts fail. On all cars. The booster failure is not an endemic failure on Mazda's, so why the rant about 'these cars'? Using GM as a comparison is indeed not apples to apples and a very slippery slope as it is not a manufacturer blessed with a stellar quality record in any regard.
So, just a bad day? Cause this is a bit of an over-simplification and over-reaction, yes?

Its a fairly common thing to go. More common in auto's since you'll be on the brake more often.
By the way is 6 hours labour, as they need to drop the tranny to get at the master brake to replace.

They can get to the Master brake cylinder top side.
Since it was uncommon, the tech took 3-4 hrs the first time. I went back to get it inspect (I was being paranoid), took an hour. Granted this was the brake booster, but you need to remove the master cylinder before you can reach the brake booster

but don't forget this forum only has a small number of owners compared to the number of cars on the road.

Which is exactly the same reason and reverse logic why one person or even several people reporting a problem on a forum doesn't mean squat when compared to the vast majority of cars out there.

Just a quick update.
I managed to get the price down to $268.60 + tax. It beats $650 + tax.
Mazda Canada didn't seem to care or want to help. I'm glad that the service manager at Erin Mills (Joe) was nice enough to reduce the price.
I'm picking up my car tomorrow. Hopefully, the brake problem will be solved.
Thanks for all the comments.

We've almost 8000 members.
Lets say, we've 1000 to 2000 active members.
that is still 0.1 to 0.005% of the owners. Honestly, it's probably even less.
I was the first and only Mazda 3 at MoT to have a defect brake booster (2 months or so ago).
edit: ppl have track their cars and the cylinders / boosters are fine. I just had bad luck.

by brake being low do you mean the pedal movement or the fluid level itself in the master? If its just low fluid that is normall because the more the pads wear the more fluid its going to need to supply sufficient pressure. If you topped the reservoir before the brakes being done then the reservoir should have overflowed. Also you said your mechanic did a brake bleed. Not doubting him but did he do it properly? If you are not careful you can run the reservoir dry and cause air to enter the system causing poor braking. Happened to me when i replaced my brake lines for braided lines did a brake bleed manually and it was perfect

anyone else have brake booster or master cylinder problems? anyone else have low, problematic brakes that weren't fixed by bleeding the brakes?
