it worked for me....for all of 10 minutes.
if your xbox is less than 3 years old, send 'er in. mine only took about 5 business days from the time i shipped it out, until i got it back.

Contemplating it as a quick fix...Gonna wait till morning. Might go for the x-bridge fix.

Warranty expired november 24..
It's $150 to fix it through Microsoft...and 199 for a new basic unit.
I may try to fix it myself...and worse comes to worse buy a new one.

Buy a new arcade, use it for a week then return it :p
haha or do this (not that i condone this)
buy arcade from somewhere swap your systems, or your boards for that matter and return the console as non working :p
On a side note, i have one of the older xboxes as well, i have had a fan on the back since day one, so far (touchwood) i am ok

Mines been off and on for a while now :(
I have replaced the x-clamps, replaced thermal compound , and tried the penny fix, and it still gives the odd RROD, gonna see what else I can do to it to get some more time out of it.
Worst case is to buy a used arcade from ebgames for $99 as the new dvd drives are near impossible to mod :(
btw, if you are going to replace the x-clamps, the screws are a pain in the butt to find!

thats what i did as a backup. cost me $140 with a one year warranty, which i strongly suggest you buy. people seem to like trading in dead xbox's.
i would know, i got 3 of em from ebgames that where dead when i opened them.
x-clamp fix worked for me, just gotta remember to overheat and then tighten the screws further...
