Is this starting noise normal?

hey guys
when i start my car, i notice that theres a metallic sort of scratchy sound right before the engine starts up
its not very noticeable sitting inside the car, but someone started my car while i was outside once and it was noticeable, made me worry for a bit

dealer says this is a normal characteristic sound
true?

I've never heard this when starting my M3, you should bring it to the dealership and have them listen to it. Better to be be safe than sorry.

if so, its normal. every auto mazda3 ive ever worked on makes this noise.

I sometimes hear this whenever I start the car and hold the key on the ignition(farthest) too long, there's this screeching sound.

After I let go the noise disappears.

Dealers all ways seem to say this.
It may be a loose heat sheild but I would go to another dealer to be safe

normal... if its auto and it doesnt make this kind of sound than it's not a mazda 3 lol

Its normal on the mazda3s. Some have it some dont. Im not sure if its on all autos. MY gf has a 08 GT auto and her car doesnt make that noise. I hear it on a lot of them tho. Not sure why it is

Very normal, I've heard it on every mazda3 at start up. It's mazdas signature sound haha... Like how Honda has the three cranks before starting haha, I can pick out a 3 or a civic anywhere :p don't worry about it :)

i thought they were jerking my chain....this dealership hasnt been too helpful to me in my opinion so i wanted a second opinion

yeah its an auto so i guess that explains it....crappy sound
i'd put in an intake then but i dont know what insurance will think lol

intakes dont do anything with insurance relax my last car had one and me current one has one
