I took my car battery out of the car to stored in a heated basement for about 4 months. Do I have to charge it periodically with a trickle charger like this one (http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/BatteryChargersAccessories/BatteryChargers/PRDOVR~0111526P/Automatic%2BBattery%2BCharger%252C%2BCertified%2B6 %252B2A.jsp) to maintain it. The charger cost $30.

You should be okay without trickle charging it... but if it does go flat, how will you start your car? Anyway, see here:

If it doesn't start, I can get a free battery boost from Mazda's Roadside Assistance program. BTW, the battery is not more than 8 months old.

not leaving the battery on a float charge can lead to sulfation.... sulfation damage is permanent to the battery and what that means is less cranking amps and shorter life

I'd get this instead
http://www.ctek.com/

Ctek charger is too expensive at $89 at CT. For this price, I can get a new battery.

look on ebay
and buying the ctek is only 1 time... replacing prematurely dead batteries again and again adds up
