Hi everyone,

I've just stumbled upon this while I was on the M3F. There's a new TSB on Finish Line Performance TSB website called "SERVICE POINTS FOR ENGINE REPLACEMENT DUE TO ENGINE NOISE." From reading the TSB, it would seem that this TSB covers a wide range of engine noises, from knocking, ticking, tapping, rattling, grinding, squealing, etc. that may be of a concern to drivers.

My question is this: I think 99% of Mazda3 drivers hear an engine noise when stopped and idling, something like valves ticking but are muffled by the engine cover. Now I am wondering is this TSB suppose to try and fix this by making the engine very quiet?

It would be best to get some input from the dealers on this TSB and see if it has any effect on the Canadian side.

Happy holidays!

I wouldn't count on them giving you a new engine under warranty because of a little ticking noise. It's probably related to more serious, loud noises coming from within the engine which would suggest some internal damage has occurred.

2004-2006 mazda 3's would not be able to get a replacement as most of them are out of warranty anyways..seems like its only good for 07-09's.

Arent tsb's like recalls? So this was a manufacturer's defect? meaning the TSB is covered even after the comprehensive warrenty expires?

NOPE!

A TSB is nothing but a heads up to the tech.

So basically what I mentioned is true. That TSB is full of guidelines to follow to determine where the noise is coming from. Then has various recommendations to solve the problem. Nowhere does it say to replace the whole engine to make it quieter. Just to replace parts that are worn improperly. Based on the pictures provided, those engines were making way more noise than a little rocker tick.

TSB= Technical Service Bulletin...not a Recall. Like Burner says...a bulletin is just a "heads up" to tech's and service managers, to make sure things are repaired correctly without un-nessesary parts or repairs being done.

I for one have not seen this TSB in Canada yet, but I have seen TSB like this before back in the KL, KJ, K8 engine days (Circa 1992-2002)

What is considered excessive noise? Mine is noisey, much noiser than before but is it excessive? I dunno. My warranty ends next year.

Go to a meet and compare the noise with other members. It could be noisy because its cold outside. When the pistons warm up, they will expand, and the noise should go away. Also, make sure the noise you are hearing is not the fuel injector.

My wife's car has an annoying high pitched ping sound... I can't really describe the sound. I heard people get it when there's moisture in the air, but every time I move the car in the garage I hear the noise. Anyone know what causes it?

It isn't mechanical...it isn't a belt. I don't really know what it is. I need to listen closer next time... lol

LOL I guess I could record it!

Good news though, I've determined the loud pitched noise is NOT the wife! She was no where near the car at the time. ;)

That seems worst by the belt tensioner pulley. Some members have had theirs replaced because of bearings going.

I'm at Select Mazda having them look at it right now
